INSTRUCTOR POLICIES, RECOMMENDATIONS and EXPECTATIONS

Expectations
1. Syllabus Parts 1 & 2 - Read and understand what the expectations are
regarding assignments, due dates and projects for this course. (Also, send
me an email stating that you have read and understand the Syllabus.)
2. Calendar – Check the calendar to know when each assignment is due and
other activities are scheduled.
3. Assignment Rubrics and Standards - Understand what is expected on each
assignment, discussion question, interaction or case analysis. Make certain
that your work meets the requirements for the maximum score.
4. APA and Turnitin. Com - Get to know the APA guidelines early and properly
apply them. You will be asked to submit your Course Assignments through
the assessment tool - Turnitin.com. Maximum Similarity Score allowed will be
30%.
5. Class Announcements and Email - Special instructions will be
communicated each week for assignments and changes through
Announcements on the home page and Davenport U email. Make certain
to check them daily.
6. Communicate - Be proactive in communicating with me...if something comes
up that is interfering with your coursework/assignments, let me know as soon
as possible by sending an email.
7. Keep up - This is a seven week course and things move very, very fast.
Remember - points will be deducted for late work.
8. Systems Ready with a back-up plan - Make certain that you have the
computer hardware and software required to navigate in Blackboard. Test
them early and if you have questions or issues contact Technical Support as
soon as possible (877-899-1499). Also, always have a back-up plan in case
your computer or the internet service where you are located goes down.
9. Ask questions - If the assignment or something isn’t clear to you, please let
me know.
Pacing – This online course is divided into seven weekly sessions; it will require at least
twelve hours per week to complete the course assignments. Please note, you may
require more (or less) time depending on your personal level of experience with the
material, level of experience with computers and the speed of your Internet connection.
The online format provides a great deal of flexibility in terms of when you choose to
work on the course. However, it is a mistake to think that it will require less time or is
easier than a traditional campus-based class. You will need to make a commitment to
work on course materials on a regular basis in order to be successful in this
environment.
Problem Solving - Because of the pace of the course, it is imperative that you take the
initiative to resolve questions and issues when they arise. The lack of face-to-face
contact means that others may not be aware of a particular problem you are
experiencing unless you bring it to their attention.
Timely contact should be made with your instructor or Davenport University Online if
problems arise. In addition to the virtual classroom, it is possible to make contact via
phone, email, US mail or fax. Although you are responsible for your success in this
course and in this environment, if there is something preventing you from being
successful, we will need to work together to resolve it.
Students are expected to assist in maintaining a classroom environment that is
conducive to learning. Therefore, free discussion, inquiry, and expression are
encouraged. Behavior that interferes with the instructor's ability to conduct the class or
the ability of students to benefit from that instruction is not acceptable. Just as in a
course that meets face-to-face, we expect only professional communication and
discussion. Respect for other learners and faculty is expected and unprofessional
communication can be grounds for removal from a course.
Participation - Successful online learning environments are highly collaborative.
Attendance and participation are critical parts of any dynamic learning experience, in
school as well as on the job. As a result, it is highly recommended that you participate in
the virtual classroom at least 4 of 7 days each week. While the days and times are up
to you, you will be expected to meet the deadlines and criteria established.
Making it a habit to contribute to the activities and discussions on a regular basis will
enhance your learning experience and keep you current on information and
announcements posted by the facilitator. This strategy is found to be most effective in
promoting success - a little every day gets the job done!
The instructor will be the observer/facilitator of the discussion threads and will be
assessing your contributions to the topic-related discussions. The instructor will be
looking for insightful analysis, probing questions, and constructive suggestions to each
other. Keep thinking from the perspective-- how can I add something useful? It may be
an experience you've had-- or a quote from an article you read which relates to the
course topic under discussion – be creative and use critical thinking skills!
MBA Policy Assignment Extensions -
It is the responsibility of students to complete all course assignments on time in
accordance with the Course Calendar and Late Assignment Policies outlined in
the faculty’s syllabus. In extreme situations where there is a scheduled
professional or educational conflict that inhibits the student’s ability to complete
an assignment by the deadline, only written contact with the faculty one (1) week
prior to the assignment deadline will be considered appropriate for deadline
extension. No extension will be granted for Discussion Board participation or for
the final assignment/exam.

Instructor policies:

Late Assignments

Weekly Assignment - Late assignments may be reduced up to 20% of the total

possible points for each day the assignment is late and a zero score will be received
after the 5th day. If you know you will be unable to meet an assignment due date,
discuss your situation with me at least 24 hours before the due date.

Forums – Your discussion response to Topic 1 (DQ1) will be due by the end of the day,
(11:59 p.m., ET) on Day 2 and your response to Topic 2 (DQ2) will be due by the end of
the day, (11:59 p.m., ET) Day 4 of each week, unless stated otherwise. Peer
responses are due by the end of the day (11:59 p.m., ET) on Day 7. No credit will be
received for any Forum posting after Day 7.

A deadline is simply that. Unless the instructor approves the extension before the
assignment is due per MBA Policy Assignment Extensions for each late assignment,
points will be reduced. All responses to Forum questions must be posted by the final
day the week in order to receive credit.

If you know you will be unable to meet an assignment due date, discuss your situation
with me before the due date per MBA Policy Assignment Extensions.
 Due to the structure of this course, extra credit points are unwarranted. As long as
assignments are completed in a timely fashion, meet the required assignment rubric
standards and students participate regularly, extra credit is not needed.

 The best method to communicate with the instructor is by email. When doing so, be
sure to write the course number and course name in the “subject” area of the
email message. In addition it is imperative that you sign your email message.

 Plagiarism is a very serious offense. It will not be tolerated in this online classroom.
Consequences of plagiarism will include any assignment determined to have
been plagiarized resulting in zero points for all assignments in that week and
other possible consequences as deemed appropriate by the university.
Plagiarism includes copying any students work, authors’ works and using it as your
own (Bottom Line....Don’t do it!) Additional information on plagiarism is noted
under the “University Academic Honesty Policy”.

NOTE: Because final grades need to be posted, no assignments will be accepted

after the final day of class.
Reservation Statement
The instructor reserves the right to make adjustments to this syllabus as needed.

ASSESSMENT OF STUDENT LEARNING

Discussion Board
As an MBA student you are not only responsible for your own learning but also
responsible to contribute to the learning environment by bringing research, analysis and
examples that help everyone construct a deeper understanding of the content then they
could do on their own.

Each week you will be asked to contribute to the knowledge base on 2 assigned topics
related to the readings and/or resources for the week. You are expected to go outside
the course materials provided and research, provide analysis, examples and support for
your finding and opinions on the topic.

Your contribution to Topic 1 (DQ1) will be due by Day 2 and your response to Topic 2
(DQ2) will be due by Day 4.. All postings should meet professional standards in
content, punctuation/writing style and APA guidelines for citation of sources and should
run approximately 500 words for each DQ.
Several criteria must be met in order to receive full credit:
 They must be posted by the due date.
 They relate directly to the assigned topic and contribute new information to build
our understanding of the concepts.
 They develop the point with examples and appropriately documented research,
exhibit sound research skills employing various tools and library resources such
as surveys, Internet, databases,. Wikipedia is not a valid source.
 They contain original thought- synthesizing information. Do not simply copy
material from another source.
 They are written clearly and correctly and follow proper APA citation rules with a
minimum of 2 professional business or peer-reviewed sources other than
the text for each question.
Interaction to Discussion (included in total score)
Interaction is defined as your contributions to the ongoing “conversations” in the
Forums. You are expected to provide additional insights, explore differing opinions and
present soundly supported, well reasoned comments that build upon ideas presented by
others in the class. Your interaction grade is evaluated more on the substance of your
comments, than on the quantity of your postings. Use the following as guidelines of
Interaction expectations.
 The contributions develop the ideas further and even bring in new research to
further develop the topic. Do not waste time by simply agreeing with or repeating
another posting.
 A minimum of two substantial interactive contributions are expected each week
to meet the minimum requirements of the class.
 The postings are to be respectful and supportive in tone.

Simulation/Written Paper
The Global Supply Chain Management Simulation is designed to teach intermediate to
advanced concepts in supply chain design, demand forecasting, resource allocation,
and production planning. The simulation will give you an opportunity to design and
manage the supply chain of a global phone manufacturer. Instructions for accessing
the simulation and an orientation to its use will be provided by your instructor in Week 4.
This simulation is prepaid and will only need an access code.

Papers
Descriptions and specific requirements for these written assignments may be found in
the Weekly Materials folder. Grading rubrics for each are located in the Syllabus area
of the course...make certain to read them for each assignment.
Papers should be submitted to the appropriate links that you will find under the
Assignment Submission area of the course. When your paper is successfully submitted
for grading by the instructor, an exclamation mark (“!”) will appear in the Gradebook.
After your paper is graded, the number of points earned will appear in the Gradebook,
Comments for each week’s paper can be found in SafeAssign.com. For written
assignments (other than problem assignments) the maximum Similarity score
allowed is 30%. Any amount over that percentage may result in a reduction in points.
