Reaction Paper: The Essentials of Human Communication

“Communication is a skill that you can learn. It’s like riding a bicycle or typing. If you’re
willing to work at it, you can rapidly improve the quality of every part of your life.”

Communication is an important aspect not only in building once nation but also in
building oneself. It helps people understand things, thinks critically about certain matters
and uplift their spirit in their everyday lives. It is not only human who are capable of
communicating things but also other living organisms like animals. The only advantage of
human beings is that the mode of communication they can use is through verbal and non-
verbal language to depict the message.

According to Nordquist (2019), communication involves the use of sending and

receiving messages with the methods of using signs, signals and behavior. He also then
emphasizes that it is the process of creating and exchange of meaning. On the other hand,
Carey (1992, as cited on Nordquist 2019) also mentioned that communication itself is
taking the reality into a transformation where it can be produced, maintained and repaired.

In the article The Essentials of Human Communication it stated that “the more you
communicate, the better your communication will be.” I do agree in this statement because
the more you talk, the more you express yourself well and develop things in you like the
good communication skills for as the saying goes, “practice makes perfect.” Also, it is the
mentioned that “fear of speaking in public is detrimental and must be eliminated.” We,
especially me believe that stage fright is normal and inevitable because as a public speaker
I sometimes feel this thing but this shall be avoided. Why? Because it will not help you grow
and proper in such field. As stated by Fritscher (2019), anyone can get this kind of “phobia”
may it be performers, kids in competitions, actors and even normal people. With such,
people can conquer it if they are greatly engaged in communicating with other people, in
this way they can adjust and feel comfortable whenever they talk or speak even in front of a
crowd.

The article also states that communication is purposeful. In my own thoughts,

Communication is everywhere. Without it, we cannot get what we want, the world will be
full of misleading conceptions and worse is that we cannot survive because of lack of
understandability with each other.

“Communication involves choices” and “Communication has a powerful dimension.”

These sentences hit me a lot for we as humans do have our own picks on something and
can influence a lot of things. We do not only select on foods, clothing, gadgets and etc. but
also, we can also choose the right words to utter, the right person and place to talk to about
a certain message we opt to communicate with. Some people might not understand the
message you are conveying if they are not the right person that should be involved with,
some might be out of knowledge beyond certain topic, others night get offended because it
is against their beliefs and perceptions. These are some of the reason why a good
communication must involve choices and do have a great impact on the society at large.

With the above-mentioned things, I can say that this article greatly depicts the
importance of communication to every people in the society. It helps us to reconnect with
others, overcome our fears and be free from misleading conceptions. This thing let us to
love others, be of good citizen it the nation and be a healthy youth of this generation. Lots
of points have been mentioned by this article but the only message of such is that
communication is a great tool towards diversity.

As a person, can you imagine a world full of materials may it be living or non-living
things lacking of communication?
