Installing SQL Express 2014

This document outlines the steps required to install a SQL Express 2014
instance for use with the Event Notification Module (ENM) or Sequence of
Events Recorder (SER).

Hazard Categories and Special Symbols

Read these instructions carefully before trying to install, configure, or
operate this software.

The following special messages may appear throughout this bulletin or on

the equipment to warn of potential hazards or to call attention to
information that clarifies or simplifies a procedure.

The addition of either symbol to a “Danger” or “Warning” safety label

indicates that an electrical hazard exists which will result in personal
injury if the instructions are not followed.

This is the safety alert symbol. It is used to alert you to potential personal
injury hazards. Obey all safety messages that follow this symbol to avoid
possible injury or death.

DANGER
DANGER indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not
avoided, will result in death or serious injury.

WARNING
WARNING indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not
avoided, can result in death or serious injury.

CAUT ION
CAUTION indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not
avoided, can result in minor or moderate injury.

CAUT ION
CAUTION, used without the safety alert symbol, indicates a potentially
hazardous situation which, if not avoided, can result in property
damage.

Installation

The following procedure will walk you through the steps required to correctly install and configure the Microsoft SQL
Express instance that is shipped with your software. The screens and options may differ from the ones in this
manual depending on the specific options or previously installed SQL servers.

Installer Location
The SQL Express Installer is located on the installation media and can be accessed using the path
\setup\SetupSupport\SQLExpress.

Procedure
1. Open Default.htm and click on the correct version of the SQL 2014 Express install depending on the
Windows operation system version.

2. Select Run from the File Download dialog. A second security warning may appear, select Run again.

3. Select “Installation” from the navigation menu to the left of the “SQL Server Installation Center” window.

4. Select “New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation.”

5. License Terms – Select and click .

6. Global Rules – Verify that all rules have passed. If any rules failed, fix the issues and . Once all rules

have passed click .

7. Microsoft Update – Select and click .

8. Product Updates – Allow any updates to run and click .

9. Install Setup Files – Allow all the tasks to run and click .

10. Install Rules – Verify that all rules have passed. If any rules failed, fix the issues and . Once all rules

have passed click .

11. Feature Selection – Click and then click .

12. Feature Rules – Verify that all rules have passed. If any rules failed, fix the issues and . Once all rules

13. Instance Configuration - Select the instance name and location (selected name and location does not affect

the ENM install). Click .

14. Server Configuration – Click .

15. Database Engine Configuration – IMPORTANT Select Mixed Mode and enter an appropriate password

for the sa account. Also, click if not already added. Click .

16. Feature Configuration Rules – Verify that all rules have passed. If any rules failed, fix the issues and

17. Installation Progress – Wait for the installation to successfully complete.

18. Complete – Verify that all features were successfully installed. Click .

19. Close the “SQL Server Installation Center” window.

Your SQL Express 2014 instance should be ready for use.
