Teaching Philosophy
The resident has developed a teaching philosophy that is clear, concise, and reflective. The resident has considered his or her
own personal approach to teaching and precepting.
Comments:
Morgan's teaching philosophy begins with a reflective and personal experience that I feel many can relate to. In
addition, this initial paragraph foreshadows the importance of educators. Her philosophy is concise with a
clearly stated goal and methods she will use to achieve this goal; however, to further improve the document,
Examples of Teaching
The resident has included teaching materials (handouts, cases, presentations) that reflect his or her teaching philosophy.
So far, Morgan has only included presentations in her teaching portfolio. By the end of her residency year and
Comments: teaching certificate experience, I'd like to see a more well-developed mix of handouts from topic discussions,
cases, and presentations, especially as her philosophy focuses on the importance of a variety of teaching
methods.
Portfolio Organization
Is the portfolio organized in a clear and concise manner?
Comments: Yes, the portfolio is organized in a clear and concise manner. Moving forward and as obtaining more feedback
from various audiences, I would suggest clearly categorizing who is providing the feedback. In addition, Morgan
could consider separating each experience and resulting feedback/evaluations into "sub-folders" in order to
keep each experience separate and organized. Lastly, include a working Curriculum Vitae that can be updated.
Teaching Log
Is the teaching log updated by the resident as lectures or presentations are given? Does the resident appear to be on target
to complete the minimum requirements for IPTeC?
Morgan maintains an updated log with a variety of experiences. She has done a great job of thinking ahead,
Comments: taking initiative, and finding experiences for herself. These future experiences are also clearly noted on her log.
I feel she will meet the minimum teaching requirements; however, I will work with her to find more experiences,
particularly in precepting or co-precepting.
