Question:- Provide a detailed summary of the Civil Rights Act of 1866.

The civil rights act was implemented in a time when the entire America was going
through a disturbed situation due to the uncertain assassination of the president of America
president Lincoln. After the death of Abraham Lincoln his vice president Andrew Johnson take
the seat of president but he failed to continue due to the protest of the republicans and at that
situation the congress party in America to rebuild the country pass the civil rights acts to protect
the citizens of the country. After the civil wars the time of reconstruction started in America and
new laws and rules were passed to protect the interest of the newly freed slaves, and the slaves
were slowly readmitted in the normal life style like the other citizens of America.

One of the first law that was passed after the civil war was the 13 th modification in the
civil rights act that stopped the concept of slavery, and it was declared that slavery was treated as
illegal in the united states. After the changes made in the civil rights act the main problem rise in
the mind of the congress party was that how it will be possible to protect the rights of the newly
saved slaves. The 13th modification in the laws were introduced inn December 1865 but later
after a few months’ congress introduced a new law to protect the interest of the slaves.

The senate judiciary chairman Lyman Trumbull presented the civil rights act of 1866 to
congress as an addition to the 13th amendment this law brings more effective rules that are
efficient to protect the interest of the slaves in America and ensure that they spend an
independent life. While the 13th amendment made slavery illegal, Trumbull and many other
republicans realized the fact that the 13th amendment requires some more point that will ensure
more effective measures to protect the interest of the slaves. The civil rights act of 1866 covers
all the points that are essential to ensure that the slaves enjoyed all the rights that the white male
citizens to men of all races and classes used to have. The only exception to this was that the law
was not applicable for the native Americans as at that time native Americans were not
considered as the citizens, but the freed black slaves were. The law was mainly made to save the
black slaves in the united states from the racial attacks and to provide all the opportunities to
them that the other class and white people in the united states get.

The brutal attacks on the slaves made it mandatory for the government to think about the
protection of the black slave. At that time in America white people started to impose harsh rules
for the slaves and forced them to work for long time and without giving any compensation for
their work. The slaves also without any protest do such things which encourager the white people
to create more pressure on them and this become a common practice in America.

According to the civil rights act of 1866 men in every US state and territory has the following
rights

They can enter into contract agreements

They can sue other people

They can enjoy full property rights like buying and selling a home or any property or own
property in general.

In addition to the rights of the men the civil rights of men, the civil rights acts of 1866
also explains the process od application of the law and how what penalties will be applicable on
the people who refused to followed the act. The act was very simple and easy to follow, as the
law was made to protect the interest of the slaves who are not that educated, it has been made in
very simple language and with simple terms and conditions so that the slaves does not feel it
difficult to understand.

The act neither confers nor abridges the rights of anyone but it simply declares that in
civil rights there shall be no inequality among all classes of citizens and that the punishment
should be applicable for all class of people and there should not be any discrimination on the
basis of the color or position of the individual. Each state should make this law applicable for
every man in the society, the great fundamental rights cannot be abridged by anyone and that the
person who breaks the rules as provided in the act should be severally punished and that he
cannot be relieved from the punishment only for his skin color or for his position in the society.
The main purpose of the act is to ensure that the laws of the civil rights act be impartial for all
the men in the society and that there should not be any practice that encourage exploitation of the
slaves who were freed from their slavery.

The bill was initially rejected by the president but later on due to the pressure of the
republicans it has been possible to implement the act and bring equality among all the people in
the society. The republican’s states that whatever may be the opinion of the president this act
should be implemented in every part of the united states to ensure the safety and to protect the
interest of the slaves who are freed from the barbaric slavery system. The republicans take all the
actions to accomplish the objective of the act and take active actions against the government to
implement the civil rights act. The implementation of the act become a major part in the history
of the Americans and that give the opportunity to the slaves to live a prestigious life. The slaves
in America have suffered a lot due to the pressure of the white men in the society. The slaves by
