Question: Provide an overview of Renaissance Art

The renaissance was a period that begun in the late 14 th century. During this period
people started to show interest in the learning of ancient history specially the culture of ancient
Greece and Rome. During the early renaissance artists began to deny the byzantine style of
religious painting and strove to create realism in their depiction of the human form and space.
The art of realism began with Cimabue and Giotto and reached its peak in the art of the perfect
artist such as Andrea Mantegna and Paolo Uccello, who created works that get immense
popularity as they give more emphasis on the perspective of knowledge and education.

During the early renaissance, some important developments were observed in the subject
matter and in the style of the paintings. At that, time religion was an important element in the
daily life of people and that become a main factor behind all the artistic development. the
renaissance period give more emphasis on the mythological themes . The painters during the
renaissance period use more oil paintings and colors in their portraits. The main theme that gets
more popularity during the renaissance period was humanism. The structure of human body gets
huge popularity; some of the remarkable paintings of the renaissance period were the Mona Lisa,
and the birth of Venus. The tradition was started from cassone paintings that typically featured
scenes from mythology and romantic texts, the development of mythological panel paintings
opened a new dimension for artistic patronage, production and themes.

At the time of high renaissance, the realistic representation of figures in space rendered
with credible motion and in an appropriately decorous style. The famous artists that came during
this period were Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, titan and Michael Angelo. There paintings and
frescoes were the most widely known works of art in the world.
