2 Decision Making In Education Systems

2.2.7 Identify how decisions are made in education systems

Decision making in the school environment is extremely important and yet there are

many different forms to find a medium consensus. Most decisions about the district itself are

made during a school board meeting full of volunteers filling executive positions in order to

benefit the families and students in the schools. In one of the Teacher Academy classes, our class

took the time to watch a board meeting that took place on September 12th 2019. (Evidence 1.2.1)

During the duration of the meeting, there were multiple different topics brought to the table,

including the bonding of a levy, approving a new member of the board and other student led

discussions such as the New DACC Facility. After the topics were stated the board took the time

to go through each one in detail, asking questions and talking to each other before coming to the

best possible conclusion. Occasionally the Superintendent will be present at the meeting, and he

will listen in to different pitches and give his input and thoughts. This gives the people in the

community an opportunity to state their own opinions and have a resonable discussion based on

the benefits of the students and families involved.

Another form of decision making we studied was all the different court cases starting

from 1635 that have greatly affected the education system today. Congress Acts such as The No

Child Left Behind Act of 2001 that changed the way teachers taught lessons and decisions about

different and less abled students in the classroom. (Evidence 1.2.2) These forms of decision

making come from the government, aimed at all schools in the country as a whole.
Meetings such as Data Meetings for the teachers were created for the purpose of making

important decisions about their students and monitor their progress in the classroom in order to

find the best method of teaching. These meetings will take place during teachers planning

periods and can be run or supervised by the Vice Principal or Principal if need be. These are

essential not just for the teachers but for the students as well as they will benefit their current and

future learning skills and abilities. (Evidence 1.2.3).

There are many different forms of decision making in Education Systems where everyone

can have a voice in order to ensure that the students can recieve the best education they can.
