Hypothesis The higher the …………………, the …………. The ……………….. Aim To investigate the relationship between frequency and wavelength of a wave. Variables Manipulated variable : …………………….. Responding variable : ……………………… Constant variable : …………………………. List of apparatus Arrangement of the apparatus
Procedure 1. A ripple tank is set up as shown in diagram above.
2. Switch on the vibrator motor at a frequency of 10hz 3. Observe the water wave by using the stroboscope, measure the wavelength and record it. 4. Repeat the experiment by using 20Hz, 30Hz, 40Hz and 50 Hz. Tabulation of Frequency, f /Hz Wavelength, /cm the data 10 20 30 40 50 Analysis of the data Draw your graph in a graph paper!! Experiment : Refraction of water wave Inference The wavelength of water waves depends on the depth of water Hypothesis The wavelength of water waves increases as the depth of water …………… Aim To investigate the relationship between …………………and the ………………... Variables Manipulated variable : …………………….. Responding variable : ……………………… Constant variable : …………………………. List of apparatus Arrangement of the apparatus
Procedure 1. The depth of water, d, over a Perspex is measured by using a 15 cm
ruler. 2. The power supply is switch on to produce plane waves which propogate across the Perspex plate. The waves are frozen by a stroboscope. The waves are sketched on the screen. 3. The distance between 11 successive bright bands, x is measured by ruler and recorded. 4. The wavelength is calculated = x/10cm 5. The experiment is repeated 4 times by increasing the number of Perspex plates to change the depth of the wave across the plate. Tabulation Depth, d/cm Wavelength, /cm of the data 0.2 2.1 0.3 2.4 0.4 2.7 0.5 3.4 0.6 3.5 Analysis of the data Draw your graph in a graph paper!!
