Control of Design
1. Purpose
To ensure the fulfillment of customer requirement by clearly identifying customer
needs and any applicable road statutory and regulatory requirement.

2. Scope
The procedure covers all the activities by which the department shall design
calculate and supply the end product as per the customers specification.

3. Responsibilities

3.1 Technical Engineer

 Comply with the Legal Issues of road transportation standard.
 Analyse and ensures customer specification/ requirement are
understood.
 Incorporates design regulation for crucial safety, environment and
security aspects of the product with in the functional requirement of the
client.
 Inputs shall be identified, documented and their selection reviewed for
adequacy for the contract being designed.

3.2 Plant Manager.

 Checks that output complies to the input of the Customer.
 Determines suitability of the product being built considering the
overall aspect.
 Check the output against engineering standards.
 Check for Product commitment and delivery date.
 Approves the Indicative drawing and specification for Design and
construction purpose.
 Forwards the approved drawing for final approval of the customer.

3.3 Design Engineer.

 Interprets the Specification
 Creates engineering drawing as per requirement and standard
 Reports to Plant Manager on any changes.
 Releases approved drawing including Factoring in of availability and
lead time of Raw Material required.

4. Procedures.

4.1 Receiving Sales Inquires.

4.1.1 Received inquires will be classified as one of three type of Products
4.1.2 The Classified Product will be
a) Standard Product
b) Standard Product with Modification
c) Non Standard Product

4.2 Standard Product.

4.2.1 Enquiry is generated as Quotation and Master Log MTD-QF-08-01 is

updated.
4.2.2 Compiles the proposal pack and send to customer, as the Product is
previously built repeatedly, which does not include Modification off
Standards.
4.2.2 Standard Design checks will be included, since it replicates the product.
4.2.3 The products are listed in Master List of Product
Form No. MTD-QPF-08-02.
4.2.4 Standard products will be processed for immediate construction if not
listed in Free Stock Register by issuing a Work Order MTD-QF-09-01.
4.2.5 After Work Order is issued and distributed to Supplier and Plant Manager
the Work Order will be registered in MTD-QPF-08-04 Register of work
order numbers.
4.2.6 Technical Sales Engineer maintains a Master List of Product Form MTD-
QPF-08-02 and Master List of Product Accessories Form
MTD-QPF-08-03.

4.3 Standard Product with Modification.

4.3.1 Enquiry received which deviates the previous built product is sent to the
supplier for feedback and clarification.
4.3.2 Technical Inquiry request form MTD-QPF-08-01 is sent to the supplier for
considering the ability to meet the input from customer.
4.3.3 Technical Sales Engineer maintains a Design Calculation Register
applicable for standard product with modification enquiry received.
4.3.4 Technical Sales Engineer performs calculation for all in Estimation of Job
Cost Tool MTD-QPF-08-05.
4.3.4 Design Engineer Maintains a Master List of Drawing Form
MTD-QPF-08-07
4.3.5 Drawing Change Request Form MTD-QPF-08-08 is maintained for any
revisions done to Standard Drawing with modification.

4.4 Non – Standard Product

4.4.1 Products being undertaken for the first time by the company, extended
formal design control shall be applicable.
4.4.2 Technical Sales Engineer Maintains an Estimation Job Tool for every New
Product Form MTD-QPF-08-05.
4.4.2 Plant Manager checks Design calculation and specification against the
original enquiry received.
4.4.3. Quality Inspector shall prepare Design Check List MTD-QPF-08-09.

4.4.4 MTD has identified process to follow as the Trailer Assembly and
Delivery Procedure (Ref. MTD-SOP-13).
4.4.5 Product assembly undergoes a Quality Control Procedure
(Ref MTD-SOP-15)
