Situation (Context for the Lesson): The students have been learning about equine breeds, history, and general health
the last two weeks. In talking about health and preparing for this lab, students looked up common methods of
injection, common injection sites and the vaccines horses commonly receive. They also completed a prelab to address
general safety and any additional pertinent information.
Standards:
AS.07.01.01.a. Identify and summarize specific tools and technology used in animal health management.
AS.07.01.01.b. Describe and demonstrate the proper use and function of specific tools and technology related to
animal health management.
AS.07.01.01.c. Select and use tools and technology to meet specific animal health management goals.

Materials needed per pair of two students:


 Paper plates
 Alcohol pads
 Gloves(latex/nitrile)
 3mL syringe
 1” 16-gauge needle
 2 small oranges
 Chicken breast
 Blue water in a small cup
 Paper towels
