1.0 Transport Units

The transport unit shall passed all factory routine tests and fully assemble with all component
as per approved shop drawing. It shall be transported to site in single panel and assemble at
site.

2.0 Packing

The transport units are packed in one of the following methods:-

a) For shipment to inland destinations in close vicinity of the factory, transport unit is bolted
to sturdy wooden pallet and covered by a plastic sheet. Such shipment should be directly
taken for installation.

b) For Shipment to inland destination each transport unit is bolted to a sturdy wooden pallet
and covered by a plastic sheet as protection against rain and dust and packed in normal
wooden case.

c) For shipment overseas each transport unit is suitably packed in a seaworthy case. It is
enclosed in a plastic sheet, which is sealed air-tight and includes bags containing
necessary desiccants.

3.0 Unloading movement at site & storage

3.1 Lifting equipment required

- A mobile crane or a chain pulley block of 3 tone capacity for unloading the
transport units

- Lifts tackle

- A forklift truck with a fork length of about 1.5m, for handling the switchgear
inside the building

- Hydraulic jacks or winches and roller pads

The handling/transport gear must meet the site requirements with regard to its
construction and load bearing capacity

3.2 Procedure for unloading

Do not unpack before unloading the transport units. Take care not to damage the
plastic sheet because it protects the switchgear against environmental effects. Use a
mobile crane or a forklift truck for unloading.

3.3 Unloading switchgear with a mobile crane

- Suspend the lifting tackle from the crane and position it over the transport unit

- Attach the ropes to the tackle and position them so that they cannot exert pressure
on the switch pallet sides

- Attach the ropes to the wooden pallet

- Carefully raise the transport unit and check to see that it is correctly balanced, if
necessary lower the transport unit and correct any unbalance by repositioning the
ropes on the lifting tackle.

- Lower the transport unit on the ground

3.4 Unloading the switchgear with fork-lift truck

- Move transport units as close as possible to the switchgear room and put them
down.

- Move each transport unit into building

- Dismantle and remove the crates just before installation.

- Take off plastic sheet just prior to bolting the transport units together and also
temporarily to check them for any signs of transport damage

3.5 Storage at destination

Reference to 2.0 for various types of packing

- Packing type (a) is not suitable for storage in covered or uncovered open yards.
This type of shipment can however be stored in enclosed buildings for a few
days. Suitable care is to be taken so that no damage is caused to the equipment
during storage.

- Packing type (b) is suitable for storage in covered open yards duly protected from
rains and dusty winds. The total storage period should not exceed a period of two
months from the date of shipping documents.

- Packing type (c) can be stored in opened yards. However, incase of places where
heavy rains and dusty winds. The Total storage period should not exceed a
period of two months from the date of shipping documents

4.0 Installation of HV Switchboard Floor

This should provided with foundation on which the HV Switchboard is to rest. The
foundation should be prepared before the HV Switchboard Arrive.

As soon as the HV Switchboard has been arrived and unloaded, carry out visual
inspection and examine it to see that is complete. Record any damage and its cause
without delay, in the presence of the forwarding Insurance agent, if the damaged was
caused on route. This report is essential for any damage claims.

Transfer the transport unit following including the wooden pallets to their points of
installation using forklifts of mobile crane or trolleys.

c) Withdraw the truck from cubicle.

d) Put cubicles down on the cleaned site or at least immediately in front of it in the
correct order, leaving a clearance of about 0.5 meter between them.

e) To remove the transport units from their wooden pallets

f) Transfer the withdrawal parts from their connected position (as supplied) to the
disconnected position and open the Switchgear compartment doors.

g) Unscrew the bolt securing the switchgear panels to the wooden pallet. The bolts are
located in the 30mm x 30mm cut out in the floor rails

h) Close the Switchgear compartment doors.

i) Place four winches under the floor rails of the outer panels and uniformly raise the
transport unit.

j) Remove the wooden pallet.

k) Lower the transport unit as far as it will go and place it in two wooden beams if it is
located above its site or place on four roller pads if it is in front of its sites.

l) In the latter case roll the units to their mounting position. If this means changing the
direction of travel, raise the unit and reposition the roller pads accordingly. Now
place planks and channels in foundation cutouts that have to be crossed.

m) Raise the transport units on units mounting site and remove the roller pads.

n) Lower the transport units as possible and place them on two wooden beams

o) Now raise the units, first on one site and then on the other, using roller-type crowbars;
pull out the planks and lower the units onto the cleaned foundation.

p) Position the crowbars only at the comers of the transport units below the vertical
frame members.

5.0 Assembling the switchboard

While bolting the panels/bus bar, keep the bolts loose (not fully tightened) till all bolts
are in position. Then tighten the joining bolts followed by bus bar bolts, followed by
foundation bolts.

6.0 Removal of withdraw-able truck

a) Bring the withdraw-able truck to disconnected position.

b) Place platform of same height as of wooden pallet in front of the panel but joining the
pallet

c) Open the door of the circuit breaker compartment; the withdraw-able truck must still
in the disconnected position.

d) Mark file withdraw-able parts and their switchgear panels.

e) Disconnect 24 way plug and place it in its holder on the door

f) Turn the lever on the interlocking plate

g) Slowly move the truck away from the panel. The two ramps drop automatically
enabling free easy withdrawal of track.

h) Remove the other draw-out trucks in the same manner

i) Never handle a withdraw-able part by its contact arms

7.0 Bolting the panels together

It is assumed that the first transport unit is in its final position and that the other units are
positioned on the foundation rails in the correct order but with a clearance of approximately
50cms between them. It is always preferable to install the central transport unit first. This
practice should be invariably adopted for a board with 20 or more panels. After installing the
central transport unit, the other units can be installed on its left and right with proper
sequence.

8.0 Cable for Termination & Jointing

Terminations of cables are established base on the Dimensions and Heat Shrinkable
Terminations.

a. The heat shrink joint above the point of support within the switchgear and
transformer. The minimum required length of the termination end assembly should be
600mm

b. The thermo plastic sheath above, thermo plastic separation binder and filter are
measured/cut as per the manufacturers recommended.

c. Tape binders are wraps around the conductor cores to prevent any of the sheath
materials from unwinding

d. The earth connection to the armoring and metallic screen shall be done as per the
following steps:

I. An earth copper braid is wrapped around the metallic screen (which is

wrapped around each conductor core) and then soldered to the metallic screen

II. Solder is then applied on the copper braid, 10mm from the over sheath to
form a moisture block.

III. The braid is secure to the armoring using a wire binder and then will be
connected to the earth terminal of switchgear as complete terminations

e. Prior to the start of the heat shrink termination, sealant and binders are applied as per
the manufacturer’s recommendation.

f. The conductors screen and XLPE insulation around the conductors core are removed
as per the manufacturer’s recommendation

g. Cable lug are then installed onto cable. These terminations are to be carried out by a
qualified and experienced cable jointer
