Project Guidelines
General Instruction:
· Every student is required to carry out project work under the supervision of a faculty
member of the department. However, a student may also opt to pursue his project
work in a reputed industry/institution with the consent of Department/Institute. In
such cases, the department must look into the suitability of the projects and assign
one internal guide/supervisor.
· For in-house project work, a student may choose a project topic from itself.
· The in-house project work will require at least 75% attendance as per the time-table
declared.
· All students are required to submit the project synopsis before a cut-off date declared
by the department. Only after getting approval for the project, the work should be
continued; otherwise a student should be asked to make the required changes in the
project.
· The internal supervisor shall monitor progress of the student continuously. A
candidate is required to present the progress of the project work (at least once a week)
during the semester at an appropriate time decided by the Department.
· Every student has to prepare a project report and present this in presence of all the
students of his/ her class at the end of semester through a PowerPoint presentation.
· The evaluation will be carried out by the department based on the presentation. The
recruitment of a student, during the training period will be given additional weight
age.
· Maximum group size allowed is of 4 students. Topics will be approved on a FCFS
basis.
· The list of supervisors along with their specialization will be displayed on
departmental notice board and circulated among the students.
Stages of Project Work

1. Submission of Project Synopsis / Proposal.


The format of synopsis is included within guidelines. The supervisor will evaluate the
synopsis proposal. On basis of his/her recommendations the synopsis will be approved /
rejected or modified.

2. Pre-Submission presentation and Viva.


A candidate will present his work in form of a power point presentation. The supervisor
is expected to evaluate the presentation & documentation critically, so that necessary
amendments can be done before final submission of project report.

3. Report Submission Presentation & Viva.


A candidate will present his work in form of a power point presentation in front of a
departmental panel. The panel members are expected to evaluate the work & project
report critically, according to the guidelines. A supervisor’s performance has to be
marked in accordance with his/ her candidates’ performance.

4. Presentation and Viva by the external examiner.


As per university schedule, a candidate’s work will be evaluated by the external
examiner appointed by the university.
Format Guidelines

1. Each page must have BEACON INSTUTE OF TECHNOLOGY in top right corner (header with font
size-10, italic) and page number at center of footer with font size-10, bold, along with roll no. in the bottom
right corner.
2. Throughout the project report, the following should be the margins: -
Left -1.4” Right – 0.7” Top –1” Bottom – 1”
3. For Acknowledgement, Certificates, Declaration:
Main Heading - Bold, Times New Roman (TNR), Font size – 14, Centrally
Aligned Running Text - Times New Roman, (TNR) Font size -12, Justified Line
Gap -1.5 line.
4. For Table of Contents:
Main Heading -TNR, Bold, Font size -14 (S. No. Title Page No )
Sub Heading -TNR, Bold, Font size -12, Left Aligned
Running Text - TNR, Font size -12, Left Aligned
Line Gap – 1 line
5. For Diagrams – Titles - Bold, TNR, Font size –10. Numbering of the diagrams will be according to
module number. For example – Figure 1.1 represents first figure of module-1.
5. For Bibliography/Reference – Main heading - Bold, TNR, Font size -14, Central ly Aligned
Running Text - TNR, Font size -12 , Line Gap - 1 line
Format for representing references: Author’s Name(s), Title of the Book/ Article/ Research paper, Name
of Publication, Edition and Year of publication.
For example:
B. Forouzan, “Data Communication and Networking”, T ata McGraw Hill Publication, Fourth
Edition-Tenth Reprint -2008
8. Cover of the Project Report (Annexure-1) / Side Matter (Annex-2)
i) Color- Light Blue
ii) Matter on Cover Page/ Side Tag: Written by Dark Blue/ Black
iii) Hard Binding
9. Minor Project Report must be prepared in good quality (75-80 gsm) A4 sized paper.
10. First Page of the Project Report will be same as Cover Matter.
11. The acknowledgement shall be brief and should not exceed one page when typed in one and half
spacing. The student’s signature shall be made at the bottom end above his/her name (s) typed in capitals.
12. Company Certificate properly signed by competent authority on company letter head (Refer Annex-3)
13. Candidate Declaration /Certificate (Refer Annex-4)
14. Table of contents with heading number and page numbers (Refer Annex-5)
15. Soft copy of Project synopsis and Project presentation and EXE files (optional) will be properly
attached in form of a CD/PD at the last page of the project report.
16. Minor Project report should not exceed more than 40-50 pages in all respects.
17. On the date of Internal and External project presentation, the candidate should be in formal Attire.
18. Two copies of project report are to be prepared.

Note: Give specific Hardware/ Software Requirement for complete examination of project well in advance
to the internal/ external examination.
