Dear Ms. Alisha Barker and Mr. Stewart Vancleave,

I am currently a senior nursing student at the University of Arizona and I will be graduating on May 14th,
2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I anticipate that I will take my NCLEX exam by the end of
June. I am writing as an enthusiastic applicant for the Nursing Critical Care Internship Summer 2020
Cohort. The education and experience that the University of Utah program offers is one that truly
embodies my interests and plans to transition into the professional role of a critical care nurse.

Throughout nursing school, I have completed over 270 critical care hours and recently completed my
senior capstone preceptorship on an Acute Cardiac Telemetry Unit. My clinical experiences in the ICU
immediately piqued my interest, as they opened my eyes to the holistic care and complexity of patients,
the recognition and management of multisystem failures and the autonomy, emotional stamina, and
critical thinking skills required of a critical care nurse. My clinical exposures, along with my passion for
intellectual growth and critical care have prepared me to proceed confidently in high acuity environments.
I am a strong patient advocate, adapt to rapidly changing circumstances, and integrate my critical thinking
skillset as a member of the interdisciplinary team.

In addition to my clinical experience, I am involved in many professional activities outside of Nursing. I

mastered time management skills working as a waitress at a high-volume restaurant on weekends while
also balancing schoolwork, clinical, and social life. I developed leadership and communication skills by
serving in the following capacities; a functional fitness instructor, secretary of Professional Achievements
in Nursing Club, and as the Scholarship Director for over 350 women of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
I have also developed skills in assessments and first-aid care as a volunteer for Z-Mansion homeless
shelter. All of my experience has prepared me with prioritization, communication, and time management
skills that will transfer into my role as a critical care nurse.

I am now eager to take my experience and apply my skills in a program that I am passionate about. I am
confident that I possess the essential qualities and values that the University of Utah’s Nursing Critical
Care Internship program is searching for in a new graduate nurse. I am extremely self-driven, but very
adaptable and always pursuing constructive feedback.

Thank you for your time and consideration of my application and resume. I would love the opportunity to
speak with you over the phone, learn more about your program, and discuss how my experience and
credentials can add value to the University of Utah Critical Care internship program. Please feel free to
contact me with further questions. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Sanisa Mendoza
