JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for performing high quality; decontamination, cleaning, processing and

sterilization of supplies and equipment dispensed by the department following
established infection and control practices. Practices and verifies quality of work output
meet or exceeds set standards. Should be willing to accept new ideas/concepts and
work under stressful conditions without negatively affecting quality of work. Shall
actively participate in the effective implementation of department’s performance
improvement activities and contribute to the attainment of departmental and
organizational goal.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Ensure proper operation of autoclave units prior to use on a daily basis.

2. Runs biological and chemical tests at beginning of the day shift. Record results in
appropriate logbook.
3. Inspects steam autoclaves for visible signs of malefaction and reports to CSSD Manager.
4. Processes or oversees all contaminated instruments and supplies returned to CSSD.
5. Use knowledge of sterilization principles to correctly wrap or package items for
sterilization.
6. Processes all items appropriately using either steam sterilization.
7. Maintains appropriate spore testing on routine basis and documents results as required.
8. Assists with processing department supply changes and clerical work related to the
Central Sterile Service, as requested.
9. Closely with CSSD Manager and Lead Technician, and assists with orientation for new
CSSD personnel.
10.Applies aseptic techniques in daily work assignments. Performs general cleaning of
department surface areas, racks, shelves, storage, cabinets and all storage area.
11.Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safely and
reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
12.Stores all supplies and equipment; stocks CSSD dispensing racks following set
guidelines and standards.
13.Maintains equipment register board.
14.Knowledgeable regarding handling and care of instruments, tray preparation and
special procedure items.
15.Performs tray assembly, proper packaging and preparation of all applicable supplies for
sterilization. Monitors sterility dates on supplies.
16.Properly loads, operates and cleans all sterilizes, gas and steam, and all general
equipment using biological and chemical control tests as required by department.
17.Maintain preventive maintenance procedure and control procedure on electrical heating
and cooling units, Completes repair orders for Clinical Engineering Department for any
unit found inoperable.
18.Receives and delivers supplies and fill requisition requests.
19.Assist with monitoring and maintaining stock in storeroom.
20.Restocks patient care unit supply carts and reconcile charges if necessary. If needed,
makes out lost charge sheet and gives to Nurse Manager.
21.Assists in fixing charge tags or stickers on all items requiring same.
22.Performs other related duties as may be assigned.
23.Orders warehouse stock as needed.
24.Responsible for stocking all supply carts on the nursing units.
25.Performs any other task and duties appropriate to his/her realm of knowledge, skill
capability and experience as required by the Director/Assistant Director or Nursing or CNO
or by the member of the senior leadership considered/deemed necessary to meet
organizational objectives.
26. To ensure that the proper steps necessary to leak test the flexible endoscopes are
implemented
27. Established standardized process in the proper care and handling of fiber optic
endoscopes.
28. Properly and safely clean delicate Endoscopy equipment for safe patient use.
29. Ensure that the proper steps necessary to clean and high-level disinfect the flexible
endoscopes are implemented.
