    STUDY OF ETHANOL AS ALTERNATIVE FUEL FOR SI ENGINE

    ABSTRACT

    The sharp rise in population & industrial and technological, there has been rapid rise in the
    need for Fossil Fuels like Petrol. Hence there is a need to develop alternative fuels. One such
    alternative fuel can be petrol, alcohol blends. These fuels will not only meet the fuel
    requirements but also increases the performance of IC Engines in accounts to reduce
    emission of carbon. Characteristics of fuel properties Such as relative density, kinematic
    viscosity, gross heat of combustion, flash point, cloud point, fire point and pour point are
    determined to assess the fuel properties of blends compatible with petrol. This study targets at
    finding the effects of engine parameters viz. Brake Specific Fuel Consumption, Brake
    Specific Energy Consumption, Brake Thermal Efficiency and smoke capacity against
    different blend ratios (5,7.5) to compare the performance of petrol and ethanol petrol blends.
    It is observed that ethanol blends are found to be an excellent substitute for petrol fuel. Brake
    Thermal Efficiency increases and BSFC decreases and TFC increases with increase in BP.
