An Interview of one of the Designated Guidance Counselor here in San Pablo City

Interviewer: How are designated as the Guidance Counselor?

Interviewee: Nung dumating si ma’am (Principal) –before kasi chief adviser ako sa isang year
level. Siguro nakita nya yung capability ko kaya ako yung na designated as
Guidance Coordinator.

Interviewer: Ah! Si miss principal po talaga yung mismong nagbigay sa inyo ng posisyon.

Interviewee: Yes ganun na nga.

Interviewer: What is your relevant training/s on Guidance and ounseling?

Interviewee: As of now wala pa, kasi ang mga seminar na napupuntahan ko ay related lahat sa
teaching. May isang seminar ako na napuntahan if I’m not mistaken regional
career advocacy yun.

Interviewer: So wala pa po pala talaga?

Interviewee: Ay may isa pa pala pero hindi ko sure kung related talaga sya. About on how to
prevent teen age pregnancy. How to handle youth with this kind of situation.

Interiewer: Maganda naman po talaga na maka attend tayo sa mga seminar na tulad nyan po.

Interiewee: Yes super helpful sya sa amin at sa mga student. Actually meron kaming program
na nag tetrain sa mga higher year student on how to counsel their fellow students.
Kasi sa panahon mas comfortable ang bata na mag open up sa ka age nila. Kasi
nandoon yung feeling na mas maiintindihan sila ng mga kapwa nila students. In that
way mas madali na sa bata na lumapit everytime na may problema siya.

Interviewer: What is your idea in Guidance and Counseling or how would you define Guidance
and Counseling?

Interviewee: Well guidance and counseling is not all about giving an advice kasi ang binibigay
nila ay option na in the end ung bata pa rin ang pipili at magde decide para sa sarili
nila. Para sakin they guiding the student on what decision that child will choose.

Interviewer: How do you function as Guidance Counselor?

Interviewee: For example may lumapit sakin na student ang response ko agad jan ee kakausapin
ko sya then kapag hindi ko na kaya I handle ung bata like severe na ung case niya
refer ko agad yan sa isang RGC.

Interviewer: What do you think is the primary function of a Guidance Counselor?

Interviewee: Like what I told you earlier, sila ung nagbibigay ng option on how to solve the
problem of the person.

Interviewer: How do you usually counsel? What technique do you use?

Interviewee: Ako as Guidance Coordinator of this school, wala akong specific na technique na
ginagamit. Kasi hindi naman talaga ako nakapag aral ng Guidance and Counseling.
Siguro ung pakikiag usap ko sa mga bata ung isang way ko on how to counsel my
students.

Interviewer: Are you familiar with the guidance and counseling law?

Interviewer: About sa guidance law, actually I’m not familiar with that but may sinusunod
naman kaming school manual.

Interviewer: How do you impliment the existing guidance services?

Interviewee: Nag base kasi kami sa school handbook namin about sa guidance services sa
school na to.

Interviewer: What transaction forms do you use?

Interviewee: What do you mean by that?

Interviewer: In admission po?

Interviewee: Ah okay, in that case naman kung admision dito sa skul halos lahat naman ng
enrollee tinatanggap namin liban lang dun sa mga transferees na nagkaroon ng
roblema sa previuos school nila. Kung sa absences naman kung isang araw araw
lang absent si bata syempre required silang magdala ng consent letter from parent
to proved ung reason nyvva. Pero kapag three to four consecutie days na ee
pinapatawag nsamin ang magulang ng bata.
