There are adjectives ending in -ing and -ed, like interesting and interested.

For
example:

Jan likes watching film. She goes to the movies often, with or without friends.

Jan finds film interesting. She is interested in watching movies, no matter


how old or new they may be.

Someone is interested if something (or someone else) is interesting. In other


words, if something (or someone) is interesting, it makes you interested.

Jan is interested in films because they are interesting.

Films are interesting, that is why Jan is interested in them.

Compare the following adjectives ending -ing and -ed:

The movie is … boring

depressing

shocking

disappointing

Adjectives ending in -ing describes something or someone. In the given example


above, the -ing adjective describes the movie.

I was … bored in class.

depressed according to my doctor.

shocked by the news on tv.

disappointed with your performance.

Adjectives ending in -ed describes how a person feels about something or


someone. In the given example above, the -ed adjective describes the person’s
feeling.

Consider the following examples:

Kris thinks that math is boring. vs Kris is bored with math. (not “boring with
math)

Philippine politics is depressing. vs My family’s situation is making me


depressed.

The news about her death is shocking. vs We were all shocked by her early
passing.

The quality of these shoes is disappointing. vs She is disappointed with her


son.
