I have a diversity of education and research experience. The main reason I chose Health, Society, and
Policy (HSP) as my major is because I want to challenge issues of public health. At the University of Utah I had
the opportunity to take health related classes from theresearcher
departments of Sociology, Economics, and Health
Promotion & Education to name a few. I also took special interest classes in computer science, math, and

have  developed greatly as I volunteer at Utah Aids Foundation as a counselor. I am currently completing the
training to become a Harm Reduction Navigator to counsel IV drug users and conduct needle exchanges. My
interests are in helping people on the margins of society.
When counseling clients at Utah Aids Foundation, I try to have a conversation. I have a list of question I
have to ask them, but they can tell me anything. Sometimes that means comforting someone who has been
abused or talking to a teenager about having safe hookups. I enjoy connecting with people.

Future Goals
I want to take my education and efforts abroad. This February, I will apply for the Peace Corps, hopefully
departing for service upon graduating in the fall. I expect my undergraduate education will lead me to foreign
lands, graduate school, and beyond.
