Pre- Reading Task:

Google the author, what other books has s/he written? Is s/he still alive? Where is the
author from? Did any personal tragedies influence the author’s writing? Learning
about the author will make you more invested in the story if you know who’s telling

Post Reading Tasks:

Note: Write your response in the space given after the task descriptions:

Task A

 Recall and Retell: Through this activity – Children will be able to build,
summarise, communicate and improve their writing skills.

In this activity, after you have read the book you will have to do the following:

1. Write what the story is mostly about? (Please ensure to use your own words
on what you felt the story was about. You can even write about whether you
liked it or disliked it? Ensure to give an overview about your thoughts.)

2. Who are the main characters in the story? (You can add the names of the
supporting characters as well) Use words/adjectives to describe the main
characters.

3. Describe the setting of the story. (You may include where does the story
take place? When does it take place? What is the culture described in the
story, in what season or time of the year does the story take place?)
4. Describe the main plot of the story. (Include the main problem, the
challenges faced by the characters, how they overcame and solved the
problem, etc?)

5. What did you learn from the main character of the story? Is He/She similar
to you or different?

6. What questions do you have about the story?

Task B

 Build your character:

Now that you have read the book, you may have a favourite character. Now
that you know your favourite character so closely, draw a character sketch of
your favourite character.
After that, you will have to draw a character sketch of your favourite character
as per your imagination and creativity. (This character sketch should be
different from that of the book.) You can build the character from scratch by
giving them a name, skills, qualities, their part in the story, their ambition in
life, what you would want him/her to work as, etc. See the image above.

You can then present the actual character and the fictional character that you
created on a page side by side showing the difference between both.
