Butterflies
Rhyme Time!
By: Jeanette Turner

Directions: Read each verse. Highlight or

underline the words that rhyme.

See the butterflies

Way up high?
Flittering, fluttering,
Flying by.

Watching butterflies,
I would love
To fly so free
In the sky above.

Spread their wings

And flap them so,
Soaring above
Putting on a show.

Pretty colors
And patterns so bright,
Watch the butterflies
As they take flight!

Coffee Filter Butterflies

Supplies Needed:
Coffee filters (1 per student)
Clothes pin (1 per student)
Pipe cleaner (1 per student)
Paint
Brushes
Water
Markers

Directions:
• Each student will have one filter, one pipe cleaner (I cut them in ½
or 1/3 for antennae), and one clothes pin.
• Paint patterns with different colors onto the coffee filter.
• Use a spray bottle, or a small bowl of water. Students will spray (or
dip fingers in and drip) water onto the filters.
• Fold filters in half, and continue to add water. Spread the water
around to mix the colors.
• Open the filter and let it dry (note: I dried mine in a microwave for
30-40 seconds, if you don’t have a lot of time. Just keep your eye
on them so they don’t burn!).
• Gather the filter in the middle and clip it with the clothes pin.
• Bend pipe cleaner to look like antennae. Clip it with the clothes pin.
• Decorate the clothes pin with eyes and a smile.
