Calendar talk (What today is and a look at our daily schedule to know where we are going for
specials) (5-10)
Lesson (20)
Guided math/practice (20)
Math stations/play (30)
I want math to be fun and exciting for the students so their will be fun activities for them to do during
stations and “play”.
Movement/Music: Math and literacy are their longest blocks of time, so I added in a brain break so they
can get their bodies moving. We may play a quick game, sing a song, do an exercise, or a Go Noodle.
Literacy: I will start this section off by doing a shared reading (10), and have the students interact during
that. This eases us into the lesson. We then will do an interactive writing quick lesson (10), which will
lead us to doing shared writing as class(10). Once we complete those writing activities, we will head into
writing workshop(20).
Recess: Kindergarten has their lunch at a early time slot, so we opted to add recess before lunch so their
breaks throughout the day are spread out in a better manner.
Lunch: Students have lunch from 10:35 a.m. to 11:05 a.m. with it being this early we do have snack time
later in the day.
Literacy: We continue our literacy activities after lunch, so they have enough time to take a breather
from doing so much. During this time we do an interactive read aloud (10-15) and then do word
study(10-15), I try to keep their focus the most during this time because it is such an importance for
them to learn the things that have such an high impact on their reading and writing skills.
Science: Our science time will not be that in depth, because they are not required work on it everyday
but I still think it is important to open their minds up to it early on so they already have an idea of the
lessons they will be learning in upper grades. Plus doing small experiments is always fun!
Specials: I have my lesson planning during this time, I can also do parent conferences if we schedule it in
advance. Your children will be in music, PE, art, or computer lab.
Social Studies: Just like science I want to be able to open their eyes to the history of our world.
Play Centers: We have fun in the classroom so having the centers will let them loosen down after a long
day and they are still learning about daily activities that we do as adults. Going to the doctor, or grocery
store.
Nap: I know the little ones need time to rest their eyes so when they get home you can hopefully have a
happy child! We won’t do nap time on days that we have special activities. Ex. Fieldtrips, field day.
Afternoon meeting and snack (Read aloud): During this time, we have time to eat our snacks and they
will have a chance to share anything they want to about their day. We will also have a read aloud or
short video from time to time so they can just enjoy their snack while getting to listen or watch
something.
Packing up: We will have time to get our folders and backpacks all together before leaving.
