HF Systems : Capacity of channel

1. Band limited Gaussian channel operates in presence of Gaussian noise.

IN OUT
Ideal
+ BPF

White Gaussian
noise

Input signal is at -60 dBm level and noise is at -90 dBm level.
The bandwidth which is needed is 40MHz. What is capacity of
the channel?

2. Homodyne receiver

𝑢𝑅𝐹 = 1𝜇𝑉 ∙ sin(1.88 × 1010 𝑡)

𝑢𝐿𝑂 = 1𝑉 ∙ sin(1.88 × 1010 𝑡)

LNA = 60 dB
What must be the LPF filter pole? Is there any other component needed for better
output signal.

3. Heterodyne receiver

𝑢𝑅𝐹 = 1𝜇𝑉 ∙ sin(1.8913 × 1010 𝑡)

𝑢𝐿𝑂 = 1𝑉 ∙ sin(1.885 × 1010 𝑡)

LNA = IFA = 20 dB
What kind of filters must be implemented and what are their pole frequencies ?
