Roaring 20’s Mind Map

You will be mind-mapping your answer to our Essential Questions, “How did the events of the
1920s affect the plot of the novel, The Great Gatsby?”, “How did finances affect everyday life for
people living in that time period?”, and “How did the Roaring 20’s affect Americans finances?”
To get an “A”, it is imperative that you flood the page with as many images as possible, and
write an essay adequately explaining how your images meet the criteria. The scoring grid below
will help you frame your content, and there are suggestions to help you as much as possible.

Content: Your mind map should include:

1. Dominant Image – controls everything on the page; try to make your image unique
2. Flooding – every area of your mind map should have a significant image; no white space
3. Blending – your images should make clear connections of relationship and ideas; images
which evolve into other images work for this as does overlapping
4. Color – gives life to your mind map
5. Character – include at least ten characters, specific items, or situations through name,
caricature, or symbol
6. Theme – choose one theme to base your mind map on. Include a statement of theme
through image as well as direct statement
7. Setting – include at least 8 significant quotations from Great Gatsby; work these into the
appropriate images so they blend into your mind map and don’t stick out, or put them on
the back if you think they will hinder the effect of your Mind Map.
8. Culture – include images that represent the two cultures in the unit (this could be
countries, ethnic groups, etc.)

Requirements:
1. Use 18’ x 12” paper
2. Other than logos for specific groups, regiments, peoples faces, etc., computer images are
not acceptable
3. Cut-outs may be incorporated into your mind map; resulting in a lowered grade.
4. Attach this sheet to your mind map. It will be used to record points.
