COM 381: Writing for Interactive Media

1. Design Objectives

a. Purpose of the Site

This website is for the Franciscan University Evangelization

Office. On the Franciscan website there are links to events that

occur within the office of evangelization, but most students do

not go there to find information. It is somewhat hidden within

the site and so that is why I am making one that is engaging to

students, will provide helpful information and also include

Franciscan University Evangelization Website Proposal, Cronin 2

student led media to be shared such as blogs, videos,

photography, and audio such as podcasts. The overall purpose is

to share information to the audience about how they can get

involved in the vibrant Catholic faith life of Franciscan

University. Students can have a place to explore what all the

ministries of our campus are all about and how they can attend

events or join teams. Through a simple and modern design for

today’s media savvy generation, things are easy to find, and the

content is worth looking at.

b. Target Audience

The target audience of my website is primarily college students

of Franciscan University aging between 18-24. These students are

most likely Catholic. Current students are most likely to use the

website, but potential students and alumni are included as well.

The Steubenville community and surrounding areas could also be

interested in this website, as some events are open to the

public.

The target audience of Franciscan students can easily find what

they need through this website. The homepage has links to the

different ministries as well as a link for shared media. The

homepage is updated frequently with upcoming events and new

posts, so everything is easy to navigate.

2. Content Outline and Wireframes

a. Home Page
Franciscan University Evangelization Website Proposal, Cronin 3

Title: The title of this website is “Franciscan University

Evangelization”. There can also be sub-titles that help the

audience to find the website and recognize what it is.

Images: The home page should make the audience excited to search

and look around on the website. A slideshow on the front page

will feature different pictures from retreats or events on campus

that are related to the page. There are also some pictures of

students who have a short quote or testimony to share. This adds

a great personal touch.

Text: There is not a huge amount of text on the front page

because it is easier to draw people in visually. There will be

Franciscan University Evangelization Website Proposal, Cronin 4

text beneath the pictures of students, featuring a little quote

from them. There is also some text in the section about the blog

posts. In this section, you can read the headlines and then click

to view more of the story.

Navigation Bar: On the top of each page there will be a logo that

links to the homepage, along with the title. The Navigation bar

can be opened up from the button you see on the right-hand side.

These links will take you to various pages on the website such as

the about page, student ministries, retreats, Household life and

media. Some of these pages have a lot of information packed into

one, so it is not just a single page option for all of the sub-

headings.

Links: On the homepage, the main links are the ones linked to the

title and then the navigation bar. On the student testimonies,

there is a link to see more, as well as with the blog posts. If

you click on the pictures in the slideshow, that also is linked

to whatever that picture corresponds to. For example, if it is a

picture from a women’s ministry event, then the link goes to more

information about women’s ministry.

Functionality: The audience has the capability to click through

the slideshow, click the links to the other sub-pages and view

even more.

b. Student Ministries Page

Franciscan University Evangelization Website Proposal, Cronin 5

Title: The

Title “Student Ministries” stands out, especially because of the

picture behind it. This could also be a slideshow, as there are

so many ministries that could be displayed.

Images: There is an image at the top to bring attention to the

page and also pictures used to attract and inform the user of

what these ministries are all about.

Franciscan University Evangelization Website Proposal, Cronin 6

Text: Text is used to provide information, as shown above with

the text boxes for men and women’s ministry. Contact information

and social media is also given in text.

Navigation Bar: The navigation bar links back to the homepage.

Links: There are links to get in contact with those who run these

ministries. There are also links to the various social media

accounts depending on the ministry.

Functionality: Users can scroll through the page, click to see

more, contact, and get in touch through social media links.

c. About Page
Franciscan University Evangelization Website Proposal, Cronin 7

Title: The title is “About Us”.

Images: There is an image displayed behind the title and also

there could be pictures added at the bottom of page. They are

also viewable through the link to view more information.

Text: Text displayed in the text boxes for who we are, what the

mission is and history. As well as with contact information at

the bottom of the page.

Navigation Bar: see above

Links: Links that take you to view more in-depth information,

that is more than just a few sentences. Links for contact info.

Functionality: see above

d. Retreats Page

Title:

“Retreats”

Images: There is an image behind the title. There is also an

image provided with every textbox about the various retreats.

Text: There is a little bit of text as a small description of

each retreat, link will provide more text. Text is also shown

further down on the page with the quotes from retreatants

experiences.

Navigation Bar: see above

Links: see above

Franciscan University Evangelization Website Proposal, Cronin 9

Functionality: see above, one new addition is that users who have

attended these retreats can submit feedback and testimonies from

their experience.

e. Media Page

Title:

“Media”

Image: Image behind the title. Collage of images are compiled at

the bottom of the page. These images will show who the

photographer is as you hover over the photo. There is a video

that can be played in the center. There is an image thumbnail to

attract the user to watch it.

Text: There is an introduction of a blog post shown, users can

read that and then have the option to read the whole thing. There
Franciscan University Evangelization Website Proposal, Cronin 10

is also a list of some podcasts to listen to with links provided

to them.

Navigation Bar: see above

Links: There is a link to view the whole blog post or to other

blogs. Link to begin watching video. Links to various podcasts to

listen to. And links to the artists who took the photos.

Functionality: This page is very functional because there are so

many options as to what you want to view, the blogs, podcasts,

photography or watch a video.

4. Production and Marketing Plan YouTube channel

This website’s main purpose is to bring together a community of

people who are committed to pursuing a relationship with Jesus

and also want to share Him with the world. This website is used

to inform and grow the community though it’s events and the

content that is shared. The layout is easy to navigate, fairly

simple but has an artsy touch that is appealing to a young

generation.
Franciscan University Evangelization Website Proposal, Cronin 11

a. Phases

First, we need to plan out the website by making a wireframe of

each page and plan out the layout and writing for the pages. Then

it is important to plan out the design. This will look like

figuring out the fonts, color scheme and other design themes that

you will use. Next, you need to execute this design and layout by

putting it into an html layout using a program such as

Dreamweaver. In this process you can do the coding of links and

the design. This is when your website starts to really come to

life. Wireframes could change slightly in the actual design and

coding process, and it will probably progress into even greater

ideas!

b. Marketing

The Franciscan University Evangelization page can be marketed

through the main Franciscan University website and also through

their social media. This website will also have its own separate

social media accounts that can market it, such as Facebook and

Instagram. Also, when marketing for events, retreats or ministry

opportunities that are apart of this through flyers are around

campus, you could be directed to the website.

c. Timeframe

The general timeframe for this website is probably around three

weeks to a month for everything. To have it completely finished

it will take around this amount of time because there are many
Franciscan University Evangelization Website Proposal, Cronin 12

pages that are linked up and need to be designed. I’d say it

would take around one week for all the planning to be finished

and then creation, writing and design come next and some time for

edits and revisions.

d. Budget

The proposed budget for this website is around $2,000-2,500

because of the amount of time spent on creating it. This allows

for a functional website made with a good design as well.
