Essay: ,,Technology is a useful servant, but a dangerous master”.

What is technology? Technology is the sum of techniques, skills, methods, and processes used
in the production of goods or services or in the accomplishment of objectives, such as scientific
investigation.
Norwegian diplomat Christian Louis Lange made the statement that “Technology is a useful
servant, but a dangerous master” in his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech in 1921 about the
advancements of technology in the 20th century. It is true, because technology is an excellent
means of communication, a very useful way for different things, but it can be and dangerous.
Why is technology a useful servant? Because it helps us with things which are practically
impossible to do in another way. Technology helps us to communicate with other people from
another country, allows us to meet different people. Also, we can find information that we
cannot find in a book.
Technology is the same as a servant, because it executes what we want. This is always our
duty. Technology is good because it simplifies the way we do things in our daily lives.
Technology allows us the possibility of using information in various applications.
Besides the fact that it is a useful servant, technology is a dangerous master. Why? Because
this implies certain disadvantages. Many of us overuse technology becoming dependent on it.
We cannot even do the most basic things without using certain appliances. We live in a world
where everything has been technicalized. Unfortunately, technology steals from our personality.
Using technology more often, we become impersonal. We use different social networks, we
communicate through different sites, and this makes us shy in life, it makes us lose the ability to
talk with people face to face. For example, in the Republic of Moldova we have a lot of children
who refuse to play outside. They prefer computer games, prefer virtual life.
Personally, i think that we have more disadvantages than advantages. We must know how to
use this ,, useful servant” because it can be very dangerous. If we lose hours in a row on the
computer, it can affect our health. Also, technology is called ,, dangerous master” because people
become lazy, they don’t to do anything. For example children refuse to go to a library, because
they have information in Internet. They exchange the books with Internet.
Also, this dangerous master can affect the life of people. Technology are used by criminal
groups and can identify person by scanning buildings or objects. For example a person posts a
photo and shows where he/she is. It is very easy for criminal group to identify the location.
Modern technology is a real "benefit" both in the speed of the transmission of messages, but
also in medicine, in construction, in the economic, social, music, in art. Loved but blamed,
modern technology is the "way of being" specific to the younger generation. The negative aspect
appears, from my point of view, to the fact that the very young generations, children, use the
computer as a "means of connection" instead of direct communication and games instead of
parks.
We see that negative effects are more than positive aspects. This is due to the dependence on
technology. Advanced technology is a reality and its impact on life, in general, is a positive one,
with a condition, not to abuse.
Technology is a ,,useful servant” which accept our orders, but if we excess of this, technology
becomes ,,a dangerous master”.
