Charrette is a Glasgow-based music and sound-art project led by Ewan
Grant. We were asked to create a visual identity for the project that
created a consistency across a range of applications. The record sleeves
shown here are the first in a series which will explore the same themes
using a distinct visual language that is unique and recognisably the
aesthetic of Charrette.
NOTES: Letters to Photography
Art direction, layout and member of editorial board, 2018–on
2018—onwards
NOTES is an artist-led Scottish periodical devoted to developing visual
and critical discourses in contemporary photography. Its goals are to
represent, examine and nurture Scottish photography thinking and
practice through the creation of interdisciplinary and transnational
connections.

As a member of the co-operative photography journal NOTES, I am

responsible for the art direction, layout and typesetting of each issue.
As part of the editorial board I work with the rest of the team to find
artists, photographers and critically-engaged writers that we would like
to feature and that we think fit within the ethos of our publication.

Material Objects
Identity, Exhibition Guide and Essay, Posters, and Social
Media Collateral, 2018
A range of work for the Glasgow International 2018 exhibition, Material
Objects by Anthony Brotheridge and Ruth Switalski. The design work
responded to the themes and materials of the exhibition; antiquity, fabric,
desire and concepts of reproductions vs originals.

For this we produced an exhibition identity, promotional material in

the form of posters and digital collateral, and an exhibition guide which
contained a 1,500-word essay by Dr. Thea Stevens from The Glasgow
School of Art.
Dornoch Street Project Space
Identity, Website and Printed Collateral, 2017—Present
Identity design, printed material and website for Dornoch Street Project
Space, a flexible, utilitarian art space in the East End of Glasgow.
Adaptable, variable typography reflects the nature and ideology of the
space, whilst the physical space itself is represented by a constant
geometric shape which is derived from the footprint of the space.
Ruth Switalski
Identity and Printed Matter, 2017
Identity and Printed Materials for the artist Ruth Switalski. The identity
is more about the creative mark and the physical line, inkeeping with the
materiality of the artist's work, than a traditional logomark and logotype.
A consistent typeface has been employed through all materials.
Selected Artists’ Works
Branding, publications and printed matter, 2016—present
Branding, digital and printed matter design and consultation for the
independent enterprise Selected Artists’ Works which was set up to
facilitate the sale of work for emerging artists and promote a culture
of buying and collecting. Each catalogue is a carefully curated body
of work that demonstrates the wide variety of styles and processes
that exist across the contemporary Scottish art scene.

Burning Times
Identity, 2017
Identity for Burning Times, a jewellery studio based in Glasgow. The
identity is informed by the research interests of the jeweller – notions of
traditional 'Britishness', folklore and the occult. These are represented in
the both the rune-feel to the mark and the typeface used.
The After School
Identity, 2016
Identity for The After School, an alternative design school.
Designed in collaboration with Malcolm Murdoch.
Barbed Wireless
Identity, 2016
Identity for the radio station Barbed Wireless, a social enterprise ran
at HMP Barlinnie, Glasgow. Where all the radio content is researched,
created and presented by prisoners.
Fashion Cultures
Publication design, 2015
A publication documenting the Fashion Cultures strand of Glasgow’s
Merchant City Festival which celebrated the role of fashion and its
relationship with music and art within the city. These cultural ties are
reflected in the layout which utilises a ryhthmic graphic to simulate
fashion catwalks, music, and dancing. Photography by Callum Rice.
