Recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse cultures, and determine their central
message, lesson, or moral.

2. Objectives:
Students will be able to write and summarize the central message, lesson, or moral of The Story
of the Leprechaun.

3. Materials/Equipment:
Book- The Story of the Leprechaun
Blooms Level (SWBAT)
Leprechaun Worksheet
Leprechaun Shoes
Crayons/Colored pencils
Glue
Scissors

4. Teaching:
A. Reading the book:
o The teacher will explain what a Folklore is to the class.
o The teacher will talk about what a message, lesson, or moral of the story is to the
class.
o Introduce and read the book, The Story of the Leprechaun, to the class.

B. Extension Activity:
o The teacher will ask the students to raise their hand and tell their favorite part of
the book.
o The teacher will hand out the Leprechaun Shoes paper.
o The students will color the legs and shoes the color they would like.
o Students will then cut out the legs and shoes they colored (this will later be glued to the
worksheet).
o Next, the teacher will hand out the Leprechaun Worksheet.
o The teacher will explain that the students are to write what the message, lesson, or moral
of The Story of the Leprechaun.
o After all the students are finished, the students will glue the legs to the bottom of the
Leprechaun Worksheet.

5. Closure:
To wrap up this activity, the teacher will ask the students who would like to come to the front of
the class to share what they wrote. After the students are finished sharing, the teacher will ask
the students, if they were to write a story, what would their message, central lesson, or moral of
the story be. The teacher will ask the students to share their ideas with the class.
