Every child has his/her unique personality and level of development. Interviewing the

children is the best way to understand their characteristics and find out how well the

development is going on. For this particular assignment, I interviewed my sister’s friend who

is a 9-year-old girl. The interview was done in our house, so her parents were not around

her, and only me and she were in the room.

The child was very nervous during the whole interview as she was playing with her clothes

or hair while thinking and answering questions. I started the interview by introducing myself

and then I asked her to tell me about herself. She gave me a very detailed explanation by

mentioning her name, surname, age, where she lives, with whom she lives, what likes to do,

etc. Then I asked her to describe her personality. She mentioned that she is a very talkative,

active, happy and friendly person and she has many friends. After thinking for a while, she

also told me that she is very kind as always helps her classmates if they have any difficulties

regarding studies.

The next question that I prepared to ask her was what hobbies does she have. She has

already mentioned her hobbies before, so I wanted to know more about them. The child

said that she likes to read, draw, dance and find various DIY (do it yourself) videos on the

internet and make different things. She talked about the reading part a lot mentioning that

she likes the universe. To the question “What do you like in the universe?” she answered
the stars. In my opinion, it means that the child has a very dreamy personality. She also said

that besides universe she likes to read about various animals and plants. This describes a

child as a curious person and happy to learn and explore new things. Regarding the drawing

part, she showed me some of her drawings which were mainly doodles. Most of the

drawings were like ice-cream, lipstick and other various objects with faces. This also

indicates that the child has a good imagination, likes to create not realistic figures.

She also talked about her strengths and weaknesses. At the beginning, she could not

understand what they mean, but after explanation, she started to think deeply about them

mentioning that it is hard for her to describe. After thinking carefully, she answered that her

strengths are always doing what family members ask, hardworking, good at dancing and

mathematics and even mentioned that her teacher said that she has a good logic as always

is the first one to solve the problems and also find other ways to solve them. As for

weaknesses, she said that she is very talkative and sometimes family members even ask her

to talk less, she also gets tired easily and cannot study in the evenings.

Regarding her accomplishments, she mentioned that when she was five years old, she

participated in modeling competition and won two prizes. The prizes were “Top photo

model” and “Gtnvac eraz” (“Գտնված երազ”). She also told that many people said that her

appearance is similar to the girl’s appearance in the cartoon. Her other accomplishment

according to her is that she makes her parents proud by studying hard and being a good

person.

The thing that she would like to change about her life is that she wants to live in the US as

all their relatives live there including her grandparent’s uncles and aunts. This can be a

representation of missing someone and a need to be near that person. Her favorite colors
are red and yellow. When I asked her why she likes those colors, she said that the red and

yellow are very bright and bright colors make people happy.

Summing up all the points discussed above we can reach to the conclusion that the

development of the child is going well as she was thinking and giving meaningful answers to

the questions. As mentioned, before she was very nervous about the interview as she does

not know me well. But her personality showed up more and more when she got

comfortable with me. And the last point that seemed important for me was her connection

with her family as she often mentioned them in her answers.
