Planning and Curriculum Goals

In 3-5 sentences, a description of the teacher’s role during the learning experience and what the
children will be doing.  
 
 The teacher ahead of time prepares bags of cut up different colored straws. Each bag has only one-color
straw that is cut up into smaller pieces and a pipe cleaner. Right before this activity the teacher will read
the book Sharing is Caring by Uncle Amon to the children. After the book the teacher will introduce that
they are each going to make a friendship bracelet, what a friendship bracelet means, and how if they all
share you will have a very colorful bracelet. Then each child will choose one bag that has straw beads
and will be invited to share their color of beads with their classmates so that everyone can have a
chance to have a colorful bracelet.
 
 
 
In 2-4 sentences, explanation why the learning experience was chosen and how the activity supports

This learning experience was chosen because learning how to share is something the children need to
practice and making your very own bracelet with all your friends is fun. This activity supports child
development specific to the developmental domain of social. This activity supports the WMELS goal of
ll.C. EL. 2 Engages in social interaction and plays with others.
