it was my intention to make a stop motion animation short, I wanted the animation hold a
message that I feel is important to be shared and something the people of all ages to know
an to learn to become better human beings and respect each other more as people. The
message that I wanted to share was don't judge a book by its cover, I feel humankind make
this mistake a lot, and it's not just looking a book and looking at the cover and deciding you
don't want to read it because of the way it looks on the outside this is a message thought is
related to humans sometimes people presume thought they don't want to get to know a
person due to the way they appear or what their background is this is a message that I hold
close to my heart and I feel passionate about sharing and making people understand the
importance of. To convey this message best I decided to use the rich and poor divide in
Victorian society, I knew that I was covering two topics at once firstly the rich and poor
divide and how different their lives were and how they were treated differently, I spent a
large majority of this topic looking into research because it was important for me to know
how I wanted these two topics to link, the topics being rich and poor devoid and don't judge
a book by its cover, after doing the research in which i did I realised that the rich in Victorian
society Help the poor in anyway, they did not help fund resources for them so after learning
this i got an insight of how rich Victorians viewed poor Victorians. I also knew that I wanted
to convey a lot of emotion through this piece, but using stop motion animation and clay
puppets I knew this would be easier said than done because the emotion in which the
characters have are used for their facial expressions And I knew by using clay this would be
difficult however if it was able to be pulled off it would have a very emotional impact on the
audience and be taken seriously And by that would understand the message in which I am
conveying.

I feel research played a large role in my animation because as I was researching I realised my
lack of knowledge in the rich and poor divide in the Victorian era and to the extent in which
this was, I feel that if I hadn't of researched this topic my piece wouldn't be nearly as
emotional and heartfelt as I wanted it to be, even though this is a stop motion animation i
still wanted to keep a realistic aspect in it and keep it as historically accurate as possible as
then the animation will be taken more seriously. after doing my research I looked back at all
the things i had researched and sorted through which parts I would be able to use in my
animation, and what would hold a significant value to it. When I was designing my
storyboard I feel this is the first time in which my research came really important to me
because drawing out the images to make them as historically accurate as possible was
important so then when filming the production it was as historically accurate as possible and
the storyboard also shows this, not only did the research help with storyboarding it also
helped when designing the characters, I knew that I wanted to make my characters in my
animation as stereotypical As possible in being the poor Victorian wore dirty ragged clothing
and the rich Victorian to be wearing silk and velvet materials that would have been seen as
expensive and that the rich soc or Victorians would have been able to afford, I knew that it
had to be stereotypical as I wanted to make it as clear to my audience as possible. but I
spent a large amount of time looking at the way in which rich and poor Victorians dressed
and the difference and how they appeared. And finally when writing my script I used as
much b-role as I could at the beginning, I focused on how the streets appeared, the colours
in which they were, I knew this important to research to again make it as historically
accurate as possible and to give the audience the feeling as though they are walking through
the streets of Victorian London.

I feel as though my production would have met my target audience as though I feel as
though the message that I wanted to convey throughout my animation was clearly shown,
And my target audience would have been able to understand this message, I feel in places
my animation would have been in some sense is stereotypical in the way of the characters
and how the streets would have appeared this would have helped the audience have a
better understanding and a better sense of imagination whilst watching this piece. another
reason I think I would have met my target audiences needs was because the Story in which I
created makes the audience feel a wide range of emotions and when I was researching my
target audience that is something that they asked to feel, I felt that emotion was something
i really wanted to convey in my animation, his personally when I am watching a film or a TV
show if I'm able to fill a certain sense of emotion whilst watching that or multiple then I feel
it makes the production or peace better as a whole so I knew this was important. Another
reason I think I would have met my target audiences needs was because another thing I was
asked for to be shown throughout my animation was to make sure it was historically
accurate as possible and this to be shown through sets and designs and also the characters
which would have been used in the animation they thought this was something they would
really like to have seen so whilst I was designing this piece it's something I focused on as a
writer And I feel it would have been successfully achieved due to the amount of research
and how that was put into the script writing of this animation, and finally I feel that I would
have been able to successfully show the emotion through the characters as when I was
designing the storyboard and script it's something I thought fully added in as I knew this was
something that my target audience was eager to see and I knew this would help make my
animation more thoughtful and heartfelt for my audience.

I feel that codes and conventions what's important for me to use in my animation i felt this
because in the time period in which my animation was set the setting and the colour off the
background and the lighting would be very different to what we would have seen in an
animation that was set in the present day, I knew that in terms of setting I thought I would
use as much as the research that i had gathered previously to help me design this set to
make it look as historically accurate as I possibly could and this would have made it more
believable for the audience. I knew that I wanted a lot of mis en scene at the beginning of
my animation as I knew this would be able to have set the feeling in which the animation
would have been and set the emotion for the rest of the animation from the beginning I also
knew that I would be able to use this throughout my animation and not just the beginning
part and when writing my script I took this into consideration and I think it would have been
successfully conveyed throughout. I need that camera angles would have played a big part
when making this animation because not only are you able to convey emotion through the
characters but you can also convey emotion through the camera work and the shots and the
emotions in which the characters would have conveyed would have been made even more
powerful due to the camera for example I decided to use a lot of close ups in my animation
and through the script to Catch the emotion the characters were conveying in each shot also
to have a wider range of camera shots I knew this would make the animation more
interesting an attention grabbing for the audience because I feel people in this target
audience if they've been looking at something for too long they start to lose interest so I
knew that having different camera angles would keep the Animation fresh and interesting
for the audience to watch. in terms of editing I believe that I would have made this
animation as natural as possible but possibly thought of the idea of adding a quiet piece of
music into the animation at a few different places but in terms of putting filters on to the
animation I don't believe that I would have done this . Because I was hoping to be able to
achieve this through the lighting I would have created for the animation. I decided quite
early on in the process that I wanted even printed or written message as the last shot of my
animation I wanted to use this as I thought it would leave a powerful message at the end of
the animation and make the audience walk away Feeling emotional and heartfelt and after
looking through different quotes I found a quote that I thought was really powerful and
would work well at the end of my animation this quote was “never judge someone without
knowing the whole story. you may think you understand but you don’t.” although this quote
doesn't categorically say don't judge a book by its cover it is implying the same message but
in terms of humans and notebooks and this is what my animation is about.

I feel that materials are made for the planning process of my animation were affective for
myself however it could have been improved if i had of been working with another person
or someone else had been producing my animation, I think the storyboard in which i had
created from my animation was successful as it was clear in what I was trying to convey in
each drawing and in which place it happened in the animation, however underneath each
drawing it might have been more successful to I've written something that might have been
more helpful for the animator and possibly because this is a longer piece of stop motion
animation had even more storyboard shots, after researching how larger animation
companies storyboard for their animations I have seen that they draw each short up onto a
storyboard and stick it onto a board and once they have completed each shot take it down I
feel this is something that I would like to achieve in the future and might have been more
helpful for me to use Instead of the storyboard in which i had previously created. I feel that
my script was successful as it was clear to read and to understand however I feel that i had
messed up on the layout of the script and I feel that certain adjustments would have been
needed to make this better however it was clear for me as an animator to of being able to
animate. I feel that my other pieces of planning were clear but however they could have
been more thorough if this was being produced on a more professional scale however i still
feel that my pieces are planning were clear and understandable And I feel that I would have
been able to create a successful piece of animation due to these.

I feel that I have created a story that would have been successful as an animation, I feel this
animation would have been emotional and heartfelt for the audience but also powerful in
which the message it was trying to convey. I am proud of the story in which I have created
And I also feel that my audience would have also enjoyed watching this and would have
been left with a powerful message which would have been made clear throughout the
animation. I feel throughout this whole process of making this animation , I feel my most
powerful and strongest piece of work was the research in which i had found for this piece
And I think it really helped me have a better knowledge of this subject and from that be able
to write on design and animation which was not only historically accurate but also realistic
and through this would have been taken more seriously and would have engaged the
audience as a whole. I thought it really important to research different aspects of this
animation And I feel I was successful in doing this, not only did I research the rich and poor
divide in the Victorian era I also researched the living conditions in which the Poor
Victorians used to have to survive in and also researching different stories of how poor
Victorians ended up homeless. and this also became really helpful when I was designing the
Story of how my character ended up homeless by using real true-life stories this would have
helped make my animation as realistic as possible and as engaging. I feel that my storyboard
in which I created for my animation was clear and demonstrated to the shots that I wanted
show through the animation, I feel this was because i made the drawings as historically
accurate as I could in terms of the types of buildings and characters and the way they
dressed. I feel I also had many weaknesses through my animation planning the weaknesses
occurred in my LO1 when writing my original proposal for my animation as I feel it wasn't
thorough enough And I also feel another place i had weakness was when I was writing my
script as the layout was incorrect and also could have been more thorough. But I think my
main weakness overall is that I was too ambitious with the planning for my animation which
is very easy to do when creating a stop motion animation piece, I feel that next time I need
to think more realistically before writing the script or storyboard and possibly make sure I'm
conveying the same message but just making the animation piece smaller.

Feel the areas I need to improve on mostly in the second year all camera work, I feel
throughout year one my camera work was not as successful as i had wanted it to have been,
I feel a lot of the work that i had created in year one was out of focus and the quality of the
image wasn't strong enough this is something that i really want to focus on in the second
year as it will make my work better and the quality better. I feel another thing that I would
really like to focus on improving in year 2 is the sound and audio of my pieces, this could
possibly be done by learning how to use microphones and sound equipment, I feel that if
the quality of my sound is better throughout the pieces in which I create it will again make
the piece overall more successful and more engaging for my audience and finally the last
thing that I would like to improve on for year 2 is the lighting might pieces or work as this
was something I struggled to be able to find a good balance of to either of made the
animation as realistic as possible through lighting or to have being able to convey an
emotion through the lighting this is something i really would like to focus on is again it will
make my peace is better and the quality better.
