Foreword
The descriptions and service procedures contained in this manual are based on designs
and methods studies carried out up to April 06.
The products are under continuous development. Vehicles and components produced
after the above date may therefore have different specifications and repair methods.
When this is judged to have a significant bearing on this manual, supplementary service
bulletins will be issued to cover the changes.
Service procedures which do not include an operation number in the title are for general
information and no reference is made to V.S.T.
The following levels of observations, cautions and warnings are used in this Service
Documentation:
Note: Indicates a procedure, practice, or condition that must be followed in order to have
the vehicle or component function in the manner intended.
Caution: Indicates an unsafe practice where damage to the product could occur.
Warning: Indicates an unsafe practice where personal injury or severe damage to the
product could occur.
Danger: Indicates an unsafe practice where serious personal injury or death could occur.

Body-builder module
The central bodybuilder module or BBM (Body builder
module) is an extension of the vehicle control unit (VECU)
and is intended for superstructures such as cement
mixers, refuse trucks and mobile cranes. The central
bodybuilder module is secured in a unit together with
the vehicle control unit and is positioned under the
dashboard. A 31–pin connector goes out from the body
builder module to the chassis. Extra connectors and
space for relays can be found in the bodybuilder control
central in front of the passenger seat.

General Information
At start-up, a checksum is calculated by software in the
body-builder module flash memory. This is compared with
a previously stored checksum to check that the software
is working correctly. Component: A36, Body Builder
Module (BBM)
Fault code
FMI 2
Intermittent or incorrect data
Conditions for fault code:
• If the checksum calculated at start-up does not agree
with the previously saved checksum, the body builder
module interprets this as a fault and a fault code set.
Possible cause:
• Software fault.
• Faulty memory circuit.
Reaction from control unit (BBM):
• The control unit continually repeat starts.
Noticeable external symptoms:
• Yellow lamp is lit by the instrument control unit since
the body builder module does not respond to the call.
• Functions controlled by the BBM will not operate.
Appropriate check:
• Reprogram body builder module (BBM ECU). If the
fault code remains, replace the body builder module
(BBM ECU).
