1. Explore the possible elements to be included in the policy in your company (your

DP company).

An environmental policy is a statement about an organisation's environmental position

and values. The ISO 14001 standard states that an environmental policy is the

organisation's overall environmental performance intentions and direction formally

expressed by top management. There are a few possible elements been discussed as

shown below.

Continual improvement

One of the main reasons for implementing any management system is to identify the

processes in order to improve them. The environmental policy is expected to include a

commitment to this concept of continual improvement in how the processes affect the

environment.

Prevention of pollution

Another commitment that needs to be included as a basic part of the policy is for the

company to prevent pollution.

1. Air Quality

Monitoring air quality will give important information of the operational performance of the

Proposed Plant. Parameters such as TPM would be sufficient to provide the information on

the levels of emission discharge from the stack. The sampling and analysis of the gaseous

emission from the stack in terms of the total particulate matter is to be conducted base on

the proposed sampling requirement as specified in the written permission or licensing

conditions for the Proposed Plant.

The results hall be compared to the licensing conditions specified for the operation of the

Proposed Plant. Reports on the monitoring program shall be submitted to the Department of

Environment according to the frequency required. Ambient air quality measurements in

terms of TSP are recommended to be conducted on a quarterly basis at the locations. The

standards outlined under the ambient air quality guidelines shall be used as guide in

benchmarking the levels.

For this purposes, three stations are recommended to be selected for the ambient air

monitoring program. The stations shall be located at the nearest residential areas as well as

at the site for the Proposed Plant.

2. Noise Level

Noise Level at the boundary of the Proposed Plant has to comply with the requirements

from the Department of Environment and indoor noise levels have to comply with the

requirements imposed by the Department of Occupational, Safety and Health. Thus, it is

recommended that noise levels be measured at the boundary of the project site as shown

earlier to assess the noise levels viz a viz with DOE’s guidelines.

Noise monitoring gives information on the current performance of machinery at the

project site and the need for the use of personal protective equipment, which can be

specified according to the noise zones developed from the routine noise monitoring program.

3. Scheduled Waste

Monitoring of the scheduled wastes in the form of dust, spent scrubber liquor and slag

generated form the Proposed Plant in terms of generation and storage rate including the

disposal of the scheduled waste is essential is tracking the movement of the waste from its

place of origin to the final disposal area. An inventory of the wastes must be kept in

compliance with the Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulations 2005.

The scheduled wastes generated from the Proposed Plant shall be disposed within 180

days of generation of when the quantities have reached 20 metric ton whichever is more.
4. Safety and Health Affect

Regular medical check up of all workers and personnel must be conducted to ensure the

workers’ health are not affected by the industrial operations. This will help to monitor the

health aspects of the personnel handling the scheduled wastes and any possible side effects

of operating this Proposed Plant.

5.Environmental Technologies

The implementation of environmental technology in the operational phase include:

Sustainability - meeting the needs of society in ways that can continue indefinitely into

the future without damaging or depleting natural resources. In short, meeting present needs

without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

"Cradle to cradle" design - ending the "cradle to grave" cycle of manufactured products,

by creating products that can be fully reclaimed or re-used.Source reduction - reducing

waste and pollution by changing patterns of production and consumption.

Innovation - developing alternatives to technologies whether fossil fuel or chemical

intensive agriculture - that have been demonstrated to damage health and the environment.

Viability - creating a centre of economic activity around technologies and products that

benefit the environment, speeding their implementation and creating new careers that truly

protect the planet.

Comply with legal and other requirements

The last commitment that is needed in the policy is to comply with all legal and other

requirements related to the environmental aspects. The environmental aspects are the

identified way that interact with the environment.

2. Develop a proper environmental policy according to the element that you choose.

Our Company fully recognises that economic growth, sustainable development and

quality of life goes hand in hand. We are dedicated to continual improvement of

environmental performance whilst responsibly providing harmless, effective and reliable

supply of product.

In line with this policy, our company shall.

 Comply with environmental laws and regulation as well as other required matters

 Incorporate environmental management principles in its corporate strategy, planning

and implementation

 Comply with all applicable laws and regulations and voluntary adopt or establish

standards to constantly improve its environmental performance.

 Conduct and support relevant research and development to improve the quality of

environment.

 Adopt 3R concept: Reuse, Reduce and Recycle

 Conduct the environmental audits and review.

 Inform all employees and persons involved of this Basic Environmental Policy, and

provide training opportunities for all employees to ensure their understanding and abiding

by this policy.

 Actively support green energy policy.

 Develop and manufacture environmentally-friendly products as well as source

environmentally-friendly raw materials.

 This Basic Environmental Policy will be made public as necessary.

It is the duty of every manager and employee to ensure that this policy is observed in all

activities concerned.
