Design approach explains how, when, and where the data should be collected. The

design approach is critical in analyzing a business scenario and answering the research question

related to the business scenario (Kumar, 2013). Design approach specifies the methods to be

used to collect the data and the procedures to be followed while collecting and analyzing the

information required in the study. Design approach can be used in a business scenario to analyze

the number of customers of all ages that use specific products. This is critical in finding the real

target audience for a product. For instance, to find whether young youths between 20 to 30 years

and young adults between 30 to 40 years are the primary users of a specific oil product, design

approach can be used to collect the demographic data and analyze it to find the right answer for

the research question. Therefore, the design approach is critical in investigating different

business phenomena to find the correct answer or conclusion. Businesses can use it to determine

the most preferred product in the market, and customers’ purchasing power concerning prices

among other business scenarios.

Observation approach involves careful listening and looking at customers. In a

business scenario, the observation approach is critical in obtaining information about customers’

behaviors (Smart, Peggs & Burridge, 2013). A business with two similar products from different

manufacturers can use observation method to identify customers’ behavior on the two products.

Customers can reject one product and prefer the other product. Observation approach can also be

used to identify the time of the day when customers visit a restaurant or supermarkets most. The

observation can provide the business with information on when to make food available, or

increase the number of waitresses to meet the clients’ needs.
