UNIT 9: DESCRIPTION OF A PLACE

Tarapoto is the largest city in the Department of San Martin in Peru. The
area is warm, humid and supports a scorching sun with high
temperatures. There are beautiful landscapes, rivers and waterfalls near
the city, where you can enjoy the flora and fauna of the region. You can
enjoy adventure tourism, canoeing, white water rafting, expeditions and
hikes. Local crafts and souvenirs are on sale often making use of
attractive jungle resources such as exotic seeds, feathers, coconut shells
and straw as well as gifts made with Peruvian silver, gold and other
precious stones.
There is also of course a wide variety of local food and dishes. Local
folklore is well represented and of special interest is the native
community of Lamas and the ethnic museum there. This is
approximately 30 minutes by car from Tarapoto. The best months for a
first visit to Tarapoto are probably between June and October when there
is little rain.

UNIT 10: SOCIAL EVENTS

Wedding celebrations in the field feature color. Traditional Peruvian
wedding clothing is bright and vibrant with geometric designs that have
been worn for over a thousand years. These vibrant outfits are worn on
the wedding day, with a specially crafted skirt or poncho made for the
happy bride and groom. During the ceremony, an ancestor makes a
speech reminding the couple of their duties in the marriage with the
elder then blessing the couple immediately afterwards.
In most Peruvian cities the weddings are "western style", with a white
wedding dress, a church ceremony and a reception. Peruvian weddings
are great celebrations, sometimes with a band orchestra that plays all
night. A wedding ritual called a cake pull is similar to catching the
bouquet. The lucky one who has the ring is (at least hypothetically) the
next to get married.
UNIT 11: A PRODUCT REVIEW
My favorite gadget is my cell phone. A Galaxy S6. It has the standard
voice function of a mobile phone and additional services, such as SMS
for text messages, email, Internet access, games, Bluetooth, camera
with video recorder, MP3 player, radio and GPS. The mobile phone made
my life much easier because with that I can do everything. It combines
many things that I like very much and I can do them all in one device,
it's amazing!
My life without this device could be boring and monotonous, without this
device I could not contact all my friends and family. All my friends have
a cell phone, maybe that makes this gadget essential for me. I am in
contact with my friends all the time, we can share photos, music, videos,
games, etc.

UNIT 12: RELATIONSHIPS FAMILY

The relationship with my family is very good, we understand and accept
our shortcomings. My mother is my best friend, I love her and I admire
her a lot, the first thing I do when I get home is to hug my mother. Some
daughters have a bad relationship with their mothers, sometimes my
mother and I would fight, but no matter what we go through and no
matter how much we argue, I know that in the end, she will always be
there for me.
My relationship with my dad is great and we would always go exercising
together whenever we have free time. For instance, running and
swimming. In the summer time, we would even go hiking! It definitely is
fun! Whenever I have quarrels with my mom, he is always the first one
to comfort me and explain to me why I shouldn't be angry with her. My
mom and I always end up forgiving each other, and the main reason is
because of dad's explanation and comfort. I love my dad very much.
