Universal Design for Learning

This activity invites students to examine and learn about the parts of a plant. Throughout the lesson, all
students will be supported using the UDL approach. Padlet can be used to boost interaction with the software
and the other student while learning the parts. Students can utilize Gizmos to create their own plant.
BrainPop can be used to obtain translation for ESL students.

Lesson idea implementation

Students will be introduced to this exciting topic through discussion with the teacher. They will be
encouraged to share what they know and ask questions. After the introduction session they will be given
traditional tools to exhibit prior knowledge of topic.
Once that is completed students will interact with the technology tool in ascertaining the information to build
on what they already know, through the use of the technology tool listed above. To enhance interaction and
excite enthusiasm in retaining knowledge, Brain Pop will be used to ensure multiple means of representation
and reiterate the points and offer an assessment. Gizmos will be used for student to make their assimilation,
ensuring multiple means of expression, action and engagement.
This lesson can be extended in school and in the home. Students can plant their seeds in pots, place them in
the classroom window and watch them grow. Using the above selected technology tool and with the aid of
the teacher, the stages of their plant is recorded and used to create their video. This project would be
completed over an extended period. The movies will be used to educate the student body as it is displayed on
various channels, in the school and beyond. This can also be done at home to continue fusing the home and
school.
Importance of technology: Using multimedia tool in presenting this topic helps student learn, retain and be

Internet Safety and Student Privacy

MultiMedia Tools
When using multimedia tools it is important to know internet safety and student privacy. Firstly, I would
adhere to the law stipulated through CIPPA, COPA, and FERPA. Secondly, I would ensure that all necessary
documentation is completed. Additionally, I would stay abreast of current Internet safety policies.
Reflective Practice:
This activity was done to lay foundational knowledge on where foods come from and how plants
grow, and the parts of a plant. Students will be able to build on this knowledge as they progress. As
previously mentioned, this activity can be used to link education at school and at home, as students
put into action what they learn and to make their own observations. Other technology tool such as
Nearpod, Discovery Education can be used to go beyond this point of the lesson
