EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The CP survey of the Ha'py Field Extension (HFE) 20" Gas Pipeline was part of the PhPC/Fugro SAE Subsea
Pipeline, Umbilical and Structure Inspection 2014 campaign.

The survey was conducted from the vessel MV Fugro Navigator utilising the Seaeye Panther XT935.

The CP survey was conducted by ISIS Technical Services Sdn. Bhd.

The following offshore pipeline was surveyed to assess the condition of their cathodic protection (CP) system:

Overview on Condition of CP systems

The HFE 20" Gas Pipeline was found to be cathodically protected against external corrosion and the potential
measurements recorded were within acceptable levels as described in the Recommended Practice DNV-RP-
B401, October 2010 (Amended April 2011) Standard *.

Section 5.4.2 “For a correctly designed galvanic anode CP system, the protection potential will for the main part of
the design life be in the range - 0.90 to - 1.05 (V). Towards the end of the service life, the potential increases rapidly
towards - 0.80 (V), and eventually to even less negative values, referred to as ‘underprotection’.
The term ‘over-protection’ is only applicable to protection potentials more negative than - 1.15 (V). Such potentials
will not apply for CP by galvanic anodes based on Al or Zn.” *

* Ref Silver/Silver Chloride measuring cell.

No CP anomalies were observed.

1 INTRODUCTION

This document contains the CP survey report compiled from the data obtained during the Cathodic Protection
Monitoring Survey of the Ha'py Field Extension (HFE) 20” Gas Pipeline.

ISIS Technical Services Sdn Bhd was subcontracted by MCS Oil on behalf of PhPC and Fugro SAE to
provide cathodic protection survey equipment and services.

The readings obtained during the survey (but not limited to) include continuous potential and field gradient
measurement, both steel contact measurement on flanges and pipeline anodes.

The readings were obtained using the ISIS digital CPDAS (Cathodic Protection Data Acquisition System).

Contact Cathodic Potential (CP) & field gradient measurements were taken using a twin half cell CP probe.
The information was logged and processed using the computerised CPDAS (Cathodic Protection Data
Acquisition System) developed by ISIS.

The survey was performed in accordance with the guidelines as described in DNV RP B401 "Cathodic
Protection Design".

All calibrations were performed to DNV RP B403 "Monitoring of Cathodic Protection Systems” recommended
practice.

calculate anode current output and remaining life of the CP system.

2.1.4 Discussion

As can be seen in the contact table in Section 2.1.3, the potential contact values obtained on this surveyed
pipeline were between -1033mV & -1054mV. These values would indicate that the level of cathodic protection is
within the accepted limits as specified in the DNV RP B401 Cathodic Protection Design.

Visually, the wastage estimate for the anodes observed during the survey were considered to be in the 0%-
25% (slight wastage) classification. It should be stressed that visual estimation of anode wastage can be
inaccurate and can often lead to misinterpretation regarding the level of wastage due to oxide coating and silt
or mud on the anode surface obscuring the observers view.

The potential and field gradient activity observed during the survey would indicate that the pipeline is
protected against external corrosion.

2.1.5 CP Anomaly Highlights

No CP anomalies were observed or detected.

2.1.6 Conclusions

Based on the results from the survey, the following conclusions can be drawn:

 The surveyed pipeline was protected against external corrosion with potentials that were within the
limits as specified in DNV RP B401 Cathodic Protection Design.
 Estimated depletions for all the surveyed anodes were considered to be less than 25%.
 No CP anomalies were observed or detected.

2.1.7 Recommendations

Although the cathodic protection system for Ha'py Field Extension (HFE) 20" Gas Pipeline was found to be in
good condition and providing adequate protection against external corrosion, the pipeline should continue to be
surveyed as part of a regular planned inspection programme to ensure that the condition of the cathodic
protection system remains satisfactory.
