customized files after installing the new reference data.
After installing SmartPlant Electrical 2015 and copying back your customized data
to all the relevant locations, you have to run the Upgrade Schema utility to enable the use of old
files with the new version of SmartPlant Electrical. In SmartPlant Electrical, click SmartPlant >
Upgrade Schema.
Enabling the Display of the Plant Group Hierarchy Structure of Electrical Items
You can instruct the software to display the plant group hierarchy structure of electrical items in
SmartPlant Electrical. This means that the software can display the plant group hierarchy
(without the top level) of all the electrical items of your plant in the Tabular Editor and all the
reports generated by the software. For example, if your plant group structure is Plant /Area /
System / Unit, the displayed path will be as follows: Area/System/Unit.
Do the following to enable the display of the plant group hierarchy structure of electrical items:
1. In Engineering Manager, in the tree view, highlight the appropriate plant.
2. Click Tools > Data Dictionary Manager.
3. In the Data Dictionary Manager, under Database Tables, select Plant Group.
4. In the right pane, right-click Dir_Path and then select Properties.
5. Set the Display to User property to Yes and click OK.
Replacing the Reference Cable of Terminated Cables — If a plant cable has been
terminated, the software no longer restricts the replacement of the associated reference
cable as long as the conductor arrangement of the reference cable stays the same. As a
result, it is now possible to resize a terminated cable using a replaced reference cable.
These conditions apply to single cables, parallel cables, and single-core cable assemblies.
Single-Core Cable Assemblies for DC Connections — The software now allows you to
create single-core cable assemblies that are suitable for DC connections.
Single-Core Cable Assemblies for AC Single-Phase Connections — The software now
allows you to create single-core cable assemblies for AC single-phase circuits.
Changing the Formation of Existing Single-Core Cable Assemblies — It is now possible
to change the formation of existing single-core cable assemblies by adding or deleting the
constituent neutral and grounding cables in the Single-Core Assembly Common
Properties dialog box.
Synchronizing Plant and Reference Cable Data — You can now instruct the software to
synchronize plant and reference cable data based on your selections of cable properties that
you want to be synchronized. This includes all the shipped properties as well as
user-defined ones.
Replacing an Associated Reference Cable with a Reference Single-Core Cable
Assembly — In addition to being able to replace the associated reference cable with
another reference cable, you can now replace the associated reference cable of plant power
cables with a reference single-core cable assembly.
Dissociating Power Cables in Batch Mode — The Batch Cable Side and Gland
Associations dialog box now allows you to dissociate multiple power cables that you
selected in the Tabular Editor or Electrical Index. This operation is performed in batch
mode for all the selected power cables.
Saving the Cable Length Value — The software now saves to the database the calculated
Cable length value on the Design Data tab of the Cable Common Properties dialog box.
As a result, when publishing cable data, the software now also publishes Cable length
values.
Performance Improvement — The following performance improvement has been made
when working with cables:
There has been an improvement in the software performance when comparing and
updating reference cables with a number of plant cables in the Electrical Index.
There has been a substantial improvement in the performance of batch cable side and
gland association. The software now uses a better transaction mechanism which has
improved the performance. As a result, the Speed up association check box has been
removed from the dialog box since this check box has become redundant.
Sorting Reference Cables in the Cable Common Properties — You can now sort the list
of reference cables in the Cable common Properties dialog box alphabetically and as well
as by cable size.
Omitting Parallel Cable Separators — You can now omit a separator in the naming
conventions of parallel cables. In the previous versions of the software, when defining a
separator for parallel cables in the General Settings window of Options Manager, you had
to enter a character to define the separator. Now the software allows you to leave it blank if
do not need a separator.
Documents
Document Title — A new property has been added to the Document Properties dialog
box. This is a required field which is necessary for publishing the document to SmartPlant
Foundation. The software fills this property automatically with the value displayed under
Document number. You can replace this text with another alphanumeric string as you see
fit. If this property is left blank, the current document will not be published.
Showing the Name of the Active Operating Case — It is now possible to display the
name of the active operating case in your reports and title blocks of conventional drawings.
Drawings
Composite Drawings — SmartPlant Electrical now enables you to create a new drawing
category that can contain several different types of drawing elements. For example, a
composite drawing can contain SLD, schematics, and wiring diagram elements. The
functionality includes an wide range of free sketch commands, creation of smart graphics by
using symbols and a labels and associating these symbols with plant items.
Title Blocks in Composite Drawings — There are three new macros for composite
drawing title blocks:
Sheet Name
Sheet Order (z of y)
Total Number of Sheets
You can add these macros when creating a title block. For details, see Catalog Manager
User Guide > Working with Symbols > Creating Symbols > Define a New Title Block Label.
Reversing the Order of Revisions in Title Blocks — You can now reverse the order of
revisions in the title block starting with the latest revision at the top of the list and the oldest
revision at the bottom. If there aren't enough title block cells for all the revisions, only the
latest revisions will show up. If there is only one revision, it will appear in the lowest cell of
the title block. For details on how to implement this feature, see Catalog Manager User
Guide >Working with Symbols > Creating Symbols > Change the Order of Revisions in a
Title Block.
External Graphics Files — The software now allows you open an external drawing (for
example, a MicroStation or an AutoCAD file), copy its contents or just one drawing element,
and then paste it in a composite drawing.
Enterprise Templates — The software is now shipped with special templates called
Enterprise templates. These templates are mainly intended for the use with composite
drawings and they are compatible with other SmartPlant applications. You can, however,
use Enterprise templates with conventional drawings.
Shipped Smart Labels — The software is now shipped with a number of smart labels for
use with composite drawings. The new labels can be found in the reference data.
Embedding Excel Tables — You can bow embed an Excel table in a composite drawing
and cable block diagram.
Background Printing — It is now possible to instruct the software to print out a number of
drawings in batch mode without the need of opening the drawings. You can select the
drawings that you want to print out in the Tabular Editor or the List View pane of the
Electrical Index.
Space Heaters in Cable Block Diagrams — It is now possible to place on a cable block
diagram an electrical item that is connected to one or more space heaters. These space
heaters will be represented in the drawing by the associated symbol.
Cable Block Diagram Performance Improvement — When placing and connecting a
cable in an open CBD, the software turns on the connection points on the symbol of the valid
equipment to which you drag the cable and not on all valid equipment symbols. Also, the
connection points are turned on only when the dragged cable gets very close to or hovers
over the equipment symbol. This new change in the behavior of the software makes
connecting cables in CBDs more efficient.
Batch Dissociation of Custom Symbols — The software now allows you to select multiple
item tags in Electrical Index, Tabular Editor, or Reference Data Explorer and dissociate
them from custom symbols.
Filtering Out Cables from CBDs — It is now possible to filter out unnecessary cables from
the display of conventional cable block diagrams. The exclusion filter can be displayed as a
notation on a CBD by adding a special macro to the CBD template.
Showing or Hiding Cable Leader Lines in CBDs — It is now possible to show or hide
cable label leader lines in conventional cable block diagrams.
Defining Function Relay Symbology — You can now define function relay symbology that
can be used in all composite drawings and conventional SLDs.
User Access Rights — SmartPlant Electrical drawings are now governed by user access
rights set in SmartPlant Engineering Manager.
Smart Selection — For composite drawings, you can now use the Smart Selection tool
instead of QuickPick to select nested items in compound symbols and grouped drawings.
The Smart Selection tool is a much easier, faster, and more intuitive tool than QuickPick.
Electrical Equipment
Performance Improvement — There has been a substantial improvement in the
performance of bus load calculation.
Showing Feeder Data for Loads Not Connected Directly to Circuits — The software
now always shows the feeder data (PDB, bus, cell, and circuit details) on the Feeder Data
tab of the load Common Properties dialog box. This is true regardless of whether the load
is fed directly from a circuit or via several other equipment items.
Automatic Association of Control and Instrumentation Cables with Equipment
Circuits via Converting Equipment — The software can now automatically associate
cables of control stations and instruments with load feeders that are fed via converting
equipment such as UPS's or transformers.
Creation of Space Heaters in the Electrical Index — SmartPlant Electrical now allows
you to create space heaters (one or more) not just under Motors but also under almost all
electrical equipment types. In the Electrical Index, there is no longer any limitation on the
number of space heaters that you can create under a motor or any other relevant item type.
You can add space heaters under the following equipment types:
Motors
Capacitors
Harmonic filters
Heaters
All converting equipment (apart from transformer components)
Generators
Power distribution boards
Cells (for plant items only as there are no reference cells)
Cabinets
Local panels
Junction boxes
Electrical Engineer Display Options — You can now instruct the software to include
panels item tags together with their associated panel circuits item tags.
Associating Multiple Transformers with a Busway in the Electrical Engineer — You
can now associate more than one transformer with a busway in the Electrical Engineer. The
associated transformers become child item of the busway in the electrical branch.
Electrical Power Values for Converting Equipment — You can enter electrical power
values on the Electrical Data tab of the Converting Equipment Common Properties
dialog box. Electrical power values will be taken into account when calculating load
summaries only if the converting equipment item is defined as a consumer.
Auxiliary Contact Uniqueness Level — The uniqueness level of auxiliary contacts has
been set to their parent items. Auxiliary contact names no longer require to be unique on the
PBS level.
Electrical Index
Creating Multiple New Items — You can now create multiple new plant items in the
Electrical index. The new items can be based on an existing reference item in the
Reference Data Explorer or contain no electrical data.
New Custom Folders — It is now possible to create custom folders under the Drawings
and Reports folder (which was previously called Documents). These new custom folders
have the same functionality as all other function folders.
Parallel Cable Icon — Parallel cables are now indicated in the Electrical Index by using
the same icon for indicating parallel cables in the Electrical Engineer.
Common Properties for Local Panels and Junction Boxes — The software now provides
a Common Properties dialog box for local panels and junction boxes. These are standard
Common Properties dialog boxes that allow you to view and edit the most commonly used
properties as well as access the management of plant operating case data for junction
boxes and local panels.
Entering Power Values for Converting Equipment — The software now allows you to
enter consumed power values for converting equipment even if the equipment is not defined
as a load.
Relay Functions — After adding a relay function to a protection relay, the relay function
now appears in the Electrical Index tree view under the relevant protection relay. You can
now associate a relay function with a custom symbol, place a relay function on a composite
drawing and associate an auxiliary graphic with a relay function.
Deleting Retrieved Process Equipment — You can now delete process equipment items
retrieved from SmartPlant Foundation. All the Delete commands have been enabled when
selecting an item in the Process Equipment folder of the Electrical Index. After deleting a
process equipment item, the software also deletes any existing relationship it had to
electrical equipment.
Creating Circuits Under Cells — When creating a circuit under a cell, the software now
allows you to create various circuit types under the same cell. The restriction that all the
circuits under a cell must have the same function type has been removed. For example, you
can create a feeder circuit and an incomer under the same cell. If a cell contains different
circuit types, the software sets the cell type as NULL.
Import Manager
New Association Links — It is now possible to create association links to associate
between the following item types:
Associate cables with cableway segments
Associate plant circuits with reference circuits provided that the plant circuit is not
connected to a load.
Associate reference equipment items with reference space heaters.
Showing Item Tags in the Import Log File — The Import Log file now includes item tags
that get rejected due to inappropriate engineering data. For example, a motor whose brake
power is higher than its motor rated power.
Importing Operating Case Data — You can now import plant item values from an external
source and insert these values into a specific operating case in your plant. This way, you
can quickly populate plant item values for various cases that exist in your plant.
Naming Conventions
Trimming Empty Spaces — When defining or modifying the naming conventions for an
item type, you can now use the Autofit feature to instruct the software to trim the empty
spaces before and after a particular segment. Alternatively, the Autofit All Segments
command allows you to trim the empty spaces before and after all the segments of a
particular naming convention. This feature has been added to accommodate varying
segment lengths of dynamic segments so that only the actual name values are shown
without any spaces.
Adding the PDB Name to a Bus Name — When defining bus naming conventions, it is
now possible to add the name of the parent PDB as one of the segments of a bus name.
The Power Distribution Board Item Tag property is now available for buses in the
Segment definitions grid in the Define Naming Conventions window of the Options
Manager.
Options Manager
Copying Naming Conventions to Multiple Plant Group Hierarchy Items — The software
now allows you to copy the naming conventions from a selected source plant group
hierarchy item to multiple plant group hierarchy items on the same plant group hierarchy
level. For example, you can copy the naming conventions from one unit to multiple units
within the same plant group.
PDB Structures
Descending Row Naming Types — When designing a PDB structure, you can now select
a descending order row naming type on the Power Distribution Board Structure dialog
box.
Reports
Performance Improvement — There has been an improvement in the performance of the
compare mechanism of registered reports. This improvement is achieved if you add the
SP_ID property to your report template. (See the SmartPlant Electrical Guide for details.)
Tracking Revision Changes in Registered Reports — This feature allows you to track
revision changes for plant items that are included in registered reports. You can add a
Revision column and register your new or edited report. This will enable you to see the
revision number of each item in your shipped and customized registered reports. Also, your
registered reports will indicate all the changed properties and mark the new items that have
been added since the last revision. Note that this feature is applicable to global revisions too.
Two New Shipped Reports — Two new reports for the construction phase of a plant are
now shipped with the software: Cable Pulling Card and Cable Termination Card.
Load Data Sets for Operating Cases — The All Feeder Load Summary (Enhanced)
Report and Multi-Sheet Switchboard Summary Report can now include sets of load data,
each set for a different operating case that you select. This way you can compare the
various bus loadings at different operating cases and use them as a basis for equipment
sizing.
Load Summaries and Report Preferences — User preferences for load summaries and
other reports have been moved to the File > Preferences > Load Summaries and Reports
tab. Also note that the following settings are now dependent on user access rights:
Calculation method for All Feeder Summary report
Inclusion of coupled buses in All Feeder Summary report
Account for converting equipment power losses
Reference Cable Schedule for SmartPlant 3D Shipped Report — This new shipped
report has been introduced for the use in SmartPlant 3D to bulk load SmartPlant Electrical
reference cables into the SmartPlant 3D catalog.
Reference Data
Shipped Single-Core Cable Assemblies — The armor type of shipped single-core cable
assemblies has been changed from Steel armored to Aluminum armored. You can see
this change in the Reference Cable Common Properties dialog box for a reference single
core assembly.
SmartPlant Integration
Plant Operating Cases — When working with plant operating cases, the software
publishes and retrieves load data only if the governing operating case is set as the active
operating case of the plant.
Retrieving Electrical Equipment Items Published by SmartPlant 3D — You can now
retrieve electrical equipment items published by SmartPlant 3D. To enable this feature, you
have to activate it in the General Settings of Options Manager. Note that SmartPlant
Electrical does not perform an update task and rejects electrical equipment items whose
classification (item type) has changed and it is different from the item type in SmartPlant
Electrical.
Publishing Space Heaters and Their Relations — When publishing documents, the
published data now includes the relationship between electrical equipment and their
associated space heaters.
Space Heaters in the Published Data of Cable Schedule Reports — When publishing a
Cable Schedule report, the published data now shows that cables connected to space
heaters are now connected to the motors associated with those space heaters. Space
heaters are no longer indicated in the published data of Cable Schedule reports. Note that
this change affects the published data of Cable Schedule reports only.
Background Publishing — This feature allows you to publish selected documents
immediately as a separate process, allowing you to perform other tasks in SmartPlant
Electrical at the same time. When you use this feature, an email message alerts you when
the process is complete.
Retrieving <SameAs> Relationships from Multiple Tools — The software can now
retrieve <SameAs> relationships from multiple tools. For example, when the same motor is
retrieved from SP&ID and SP 3D, SmartPlant Electrical saves all the <SameAs> UIDs from
these tools.
Uncorrelating Plant Items — You can now break the relationship of plant items in
SmartPlant Electrical with items in other authoring tools.
Optimizing the Publishing Scope of Schematic Drawings — When publishing a
schematic drawing, the software now publishes not only the drawing and its main item, but
also all the plant items that are included in the published schematic drawing. Also, opening a
published drawing in the Desktop Client enables you to see the properties of the related
item.
No Trailing Spaces in Plant Item Names — When publishing SmartPlant Electrical plant
items, all the trailing spaces in the tag names are removed automatically.
Publishing Cable Block Diagrams — You can now publish cable block diagrams. The
scope of the published data is determined by the content of the published CBD.
Publishing Wiring Diagrams — You can now publish wiring diagrams. The scope of the
published data is determined by the content of the published drawing. The software also
publishes the cables and equipment items associated with the cables and not the wiring
information (any of the related, such as terminal strips, jumpers, wires, or cable sets will not
show the properties of the main equipment or the cable.)
Publishing PDB Layout Diagrams — You can now publish PDB Layout diagrams. The
scope of the published data is determined by the content of the published drawing.
Internationalization
Supporting internationalization in a homogeneous environment is one of the enhancements
available in SmartPlant Enterprise. A homogeneous environment uses elements from only a
single locale. For example, a German customer running on a German operating system using
only German characters and German cultural conventions is a fully supported homogeneous
environment configuration.
Homogeneous Environments
When starting a new project, use extra care during installation and configuration to ensure the
proper creation and maintenance of homogeneous environments:
All the computers (servers and clients) within an integrated SmartPlant Enterprise
implementation must have the same regional settings, and no one should change the
regional settings after the project has started.
Do not cross the decimal locale boundary. This is the most common cause of numeric data
corruption and calculation errors. Having users with different regional settings (like with a
period versus a comma for the decimal point) causes the software to interpret values
unpredictably. For example, a pipe run with a pressure of 35.3 psi can be read by the
software as 353 psi to the user with different regional settings. A cable length defined as 39
ft 11,21 inches has been interpreted as 121718910971323 meters when published to an
XML file. These incorrect interpretations may be used in internal software calculations and
can be impossible to backtrack or correct. Do not change the decimal point character to try
to solve an issue. Doing so will only corrupt values in the database or in text files.
Do not cross the character-set locale boundary. For example, the character set boundary
between Western (Latin-based) and Eastern Europe (Cyrillic-based), or between Eastern
Europe and Japan.
Create Oracle databases using AL32UTF8 for the database character set and AL16UTF16
for the NLS character set.
Never modify the NLS_LANG registry entry on an Oracle client. Doing so causes the
character data not to convert to Unicode.
Create Microsoft SQL Server databases with locale-specific collation settings and ensure
that all databases have the same setting.
Heterogeneous Environments
In contrast, a heterogeneous environment using elements from different, or even multiple
locales, is not supported. Many customers are currently operating in unsupported
heterogeneous environments and are often not aware of that fact. Examples of heterogeneous
environments:
Entering or viewing Japanese data on an US/English operating system
Using German Regional Settings (where the decimal point is a comma) on a US/English
operating system
