Documentation
Documentation shall mean, whether in electronic or printed form, User's Guides, Installation Guides, Reference Guides,
Administrator's Guides, Customization Guides, Programmer's Guides, Configuration Guides and Help Guides delivered with a
particular software product.
Other Documentation
Other Documentation shall mean, whether in electronic or printed form and delivered with software or on Intergraph Smart Support,
SharePoint, or box.net, any documentation related to work processes, workflows, and best practices that is provided by Intergraph
as guidance for using a software product.
Terms of Use
a. Use of a software product and Documentation is subject to the End User License Agreement ("EULA") delivered with the
software product unless the Licensee has a valid signed license for this software product with Intergraph Corporation. If the
Licensee has a valid signed license for this software product with Intergraph Corporation, the valid signed license shall take
precedence and govern the use of this software product and Documentation. Subject to the terms contained within the
applicable license agreement, Intergraph Corporation gives Licensee permission to print a reasonable number of copies of the
Documentation as defined in the applicable license agreement and delivered with the software product for Licensee's internal,
non-commercial use. The Documentation may not be printed for resale or redistribution.
b. For use of Documentation or Other Documentation where end user does not receive a EULA or does not have a valid license
agreement with Intergraph, Intergraph grants the Licensee a non-exclusive license to use the Documentation or Other
Documentation for Licensee’s internal non-commercial use. Intergraph Corporation gives Licensee permission to print a
reasonable number of copies of Other Documentation for Licensee’s internal, non-commercial. The Other Documentation may
not be printed for resale or redistribution. This license contained in this subsection b) may be terminated at any time and for any
reason by Intergraph Corporation by giving written notice to Licensee.

Opens the Help viewer where you can read topics about commands, procedures, dialog boxes,
and so forth.
Folders organize specifications into insulation types: cork, glass wool, asbestos, and so forth.
Within folders individual specifications are described. Open a folder by double-clicking it or by
selecting the plus sign preceding the name. Review the properties of an individual specification
by double-clicking it. The Insulation Specification Properties (see "Insulation Specification
Properties Dialog Box" on page 18) dialog box displays all the information about each
specification.
The path to the active plant insulation specification file, which has the extension .isl, is defined in
the reference data settings in SmartPlant P&ID Options Manager. You can change databases in
SmartPlant P&ID Options Manager, open a different database in SmartPlant P&ID Insulation
Specification Manager, create an entirely new plant specification file, or change the default path
in SmartPlant P&ID Options Manager if you need to access a different plant file. You must have
the appropriate permissions, granted in SmartPlant Engineering Manager, to open and modify
plant files in SmartPlant P&ID Insulation Specification Manager.
Connect to a Database
1. Click File > Open Database. If the plant structure you want appears in the Available
plant structures list, you can select it in the List view on this dialog box, and go to step 4.
2. On the Open Plant Structure dialog box, click Site Server.
3. On the Open Site Server dialog box, select the correct SmartPlant initialization (.ini) file and
click OK.
4. Click Open.
The Open command checks to make sure that you have the correct access privileges for
the selected plant structure and passes your access information back to the software.
If you already have a file open, you are prompted to save it before you open another
specification file.
The path to the default specification file is defined in the reference data settings in
SmartPlant P&ID Options Manager.
This procedure opens Microsoft® Excel and displays the insulation types and insulation
specifications, each on a separate worksheet.
Opens the Open Plant Structure dialog box allowing you to connect to the site server
SmartPlant initialization (.ini) file. You can also view the plants to which you were recently
connected. In order to use this command, your computer must be able to connect to the network
where the server is located.
Opens an insulation specification plant file. The Open dialog box appears. If you currently have
a plant file open, you are prompted to save it before opening a new one.
Application Type — Allows you to select an application for filtering the available plant
structures that are associated with that application. If all the plants in the site are associated
with one application only, the value is read-only.
Available plant structures — Lists those plant structures found on the network. You can select
only one item from this List view at a time.
Open — Connects you to the selected database. The Open command also checks to make
sure you have the correct access privileges for the selected plant structure and passes your
access information back to SmartPlant P&ID Insulation Specification Manager.
Site Server — Opens the Open Site Server dialog box, allowing you to select a SmartPlant
initialization file from local and network directories. Plant structures that correspond to the
initialization file that you choose appear in the list of available plant structures.
If a plant specification file is already open, you are prompted to save it before creating
the new file. Be sure to save it in the correct reference data location for the plant to which it
applies.
2. On the Options dialog box, choose the temperature and thickness units for this plant file,
and click OK.
After creating a new plant specification file, you can navigate in the Tree view and create
new insulation specifications. For more information, see Create a New Insulation Specification
(on page 15).
The available temperature and thickness units are defined in SmartPlant P&ID Format
Manager.
Default temperature and thickness units apply to the entire plant specification file.
Temperature units — Allows you to choose the default temperature units, such as F for
Fahrenheit.
Thickness units — Lists the available default thickness units, such as in for inches.
2. Click Edit > Add Specification. The Add Specification command is also available
from the toolbar.
3. On the Insulation Specification Properties dialog box, click the General tab, enter a name
and description, and choose a purpose for the new specification.
4. On the Piping tab and the Equipment tab, define thickness and temperature ranges. For
more information, see Set Piping and Equipment Ranges (on page 26).
5. On the Piping tab and the Equipment tab, define catalog items that are excluded from use
with this insulation specification. For more information, see Set Exclusions for an Insulation
Specification (on page 27).
Insulation purposes are read from the insulation purpose select list, which you can modify
by using SmartPlant Data Dictionary Manager.
2. Click Delete .
3. Confirm the removal of the specification from the plant file.
You must have the correct permissions, granted in SmartPlant Engineering Manager, to
delete or modify insulation specifications.
Opens the Insulation Specification Properties dialog box so you can create a new insulation
specification.
Moves the selected data to the Clipboard. The selected data no longer appears in the Tree
view.
Places a copy of the selected insulation data on the Clipboard. The selected data remains in the
Tree view.
Places the copied or moved insulation data from the Clipboard to the location you have
selected.
Removes the selected insulation specification from the database. You can use this command
only if you have selected an insulation specification in the Tree view. You also must have the
required privileges to delete specifications. You cannot delete a folder.
Displays the Insulation Specification Properties dialog box, which allows you to define or edit
the name, description, and other properties of the insulation specification you select. If you do
not select a particular insulation specification, this command opens the Type Properties dialog
box, which allows you to change the density for the selected insulation type.
Piping insulation thickness — Displays the piping insulation thickness values based on
temperature values you assign on the Piping Range Setup dialog box. Empty spaces are not
allowed in this table.
Heat trace medium — Allows you to define the heat trace medium that will automatically be
assigned with this insulation specification (such as FAJ, I, SN, and so forth). Only the defined
heat trace medium can be used in combination with that insulation spec. You can also choose
one of the following options:
Undefined — No heat trace can be used if that particular insulation spec is assigned.
Ignore — Any heat trace can be used with that specified insulation spec.
Heat tracing media are defined in SmartPlant P&ID Data Dictionary Manager and their
symbology is defined in Options Manager.
Range Setup — Opens the Piping Range Setup dialog box, allowing you to set up
temperature ranges that appear in the top row of the Piping insulation thickness table and the
diameter ranges that appear in the left-hand column.
Exclusions — Opens the Insulation Specification - Exclusions dialog box, allowing you to
apply filters to exclude the application of an insulation specification on a specific piping type.
Equipment insulation thickness — Displays the equipment insulation thickness values based
on temperature values you assign on the Equipment Range Setup dialog box. All equipment is
assumed to be flat; therefore, this tab requires only temperature values, not diameter values.
Empty spaces are not allowed in this table.
Heat trace medium — Allows you to define the heat trace medium that will automatically be
assigned with this insulation specification (such as FAJ, I, SN, and so forth). Only the defined
heat trace medium can be used in combination with that insulation spec. You can also choose
one of the following options: You can also choose one of the following options:
Undefined — No heat trace can be used if that particular insulation spec is assigned.
Ignore — Any heat trace can be used with that specified insulation spec.
Heat tracing media are defined in SmartPlant P&ID Data Dictionary Manager and their
symbology is defined in Options Manager. For equipment, the location of the symbology also
depends on where the graphics are drawn on the Heat Trace or Jacket tab in Catalog Manager.
Range Setup — Opens the Equipment Range Setup dialog box, allowing you to set up
temperature ranges that appear in the top row of the Equipment insulation thickness table.
Exclusions — Opens the Insulation Specification - Exclusions dialog box allowing you to
apply filters to exclude the application of an insulation specification on a specific equipment type.
Nominal diameter — Lists the available nominal diameters, which are specified in SmartPlant
Data Dictionary Manager. This box also displays the ranges that result from your choices. Select
values in the list, and click a value again to remove it from selection.
Temperature — Allows you to enter temperature values, constructs ranges from those values,
and displays the Resulting ranges. Enter a temperature, and then enter another. Inspect the
results.
Resulting ranges — Lists the results of your choices in diameters and temperatures.
Filters — Displays the filters defining the items that cannot have this insulation specification
applied.
Add Filter — Opens the Exclusion Filters dialog box, which allows you to select new filters to
add to the Filters list or to view the properties of filters.
Remove Filter — Removes the selected filter from the Filters list.
Filter Selection — Lists the available filters. Select one, and click OK to apply it.
Properties — Displays the properties for the selected filter. You cannot modify filters in
SmartPlant P&ID Insulation Specification Manager.
Name — Specifies the filter name. The name can be any combination of characters and has no
length limit. Filter names within a plant must be unique. This name appears as the filter name on
the Exclusion Filters dialog box.
Description — Specifies a phrase or sentence about the filter. The description can be any
combination of characters and has no length limit. The description appears as a ToolTip when
you point to the filter name on the Exclusion Filters dialog box.
Filter method
Allows you to decide whether items must meet all or only one criterion to pass through the filter.
Match all — Specifies that items matching ALL of the filtering criteria pass through the filter.
Match any — Specifies that items matching any one or more of the filtering criteria pass through
the filter. Match any is the default matching method.
Set as asking filter — This check box is selected if the filter is defined as an asking filter.
Asking filters do not have any meaning in this dialog box because all the Edit options are
read-only.
Description — Provides a description of the filter. The description appears as a ToolTip when
you point to the filter name on the Exclusion Filters dialog box.
Filter for — Contains the top-level items from the Data Dictionary. The properties displayed in
the Definition grid are those that are appropriate for this item.
Definition
Displays all defined criteria associated with a filter.
Match all — Specifies that only items matching ALL of the filtering criteria pass through the
filter.
Match any — Specifies that items matching any one or more of the filtering criteria pass through
the filter.
Edit
The options in this section are not available for read-only mode.
Temperature — Allows you to define or modify the temperature range for the insulation
specification.
Resulting ranges — Displays the results of the specifications that you enter in Equipment
diameter and Temperature. You can delete inappropriate data from the list.
2. Click Properties .
3. On the Insulation Specification Properties dialog box, click the General tab, and modify
the name, description, and purpose, as necessary.
4. On the Piping and Equipment tabs, change the thickness and temperature ranges as
necessary. For more information, see Set Piping and Equipment Ranges (on page 26).
5. On the Piping and Equipment tabs, redefine catalog items that are excluded from use with
this insulation specification, as necessary. For more information, see Set Exclusions for an
Insulation Specification (on page 27).
Insulation purposes are read from the insulation purpose select list, which you can modify
by using SmartPlant Data Dictionary Manager.
If necessary, you can select a temperature value from the list and delete it.
The temperature range refers to the operating range for the insulation specification only.
It is not constrained to match any defined temperature for the item you want to insulate
in the design software.
You can display the properties of a filter by selecting it and clicking Properties. However,
you cannot modify filters in SmartPlant P&ID Insulation Specification Manager.
Compound filters cannot be used to create exclusions in SmartPlant P&ID Insulation
Specification Manager.
