1 System purpose
The RG-1000e is used in SmartPTT dispatch systems to provide remote control for the MOTOTRBO control
station(s) or radios through the SmartPTT Radioserver (hereinafter referred to as radioserver) in the corporate IP
network or on the Internet. It must be used with MOTOTRBO Radios: EMEA region DM46**e, DM44**e, DM46**,
DM44**, DM2600 ; APAC region XiR M8600i, XiR M8600, XiR M6660 ; NA region XPR 5***e, XPR 5***, XPR 2500
; LA region DGM 8***e, DGM 5***e, DGM 8***, DGM 5***, DEM500.(*)

The RG-1000e provides conversion of audio signals and radio control commands into IP packets and
transmission of these packets over the network. The RG-1000e is an alternative to direct connection of control
stations to the radioserver via a USB interface.

The RG-1000e with firmware version R2.2 or later may be used for connection of non-Mototrbo radios to the
SmartPTT radioserver. Mobile radios and\or repeaters (analog or digital) are connected to the RG-1000e using 5
wires: PTT, CSQ, RX Audio, TX Audio and GND. This connection mechanism provides voice exchange between
SmartPTT Dispatchers and talk-groups of non-Mototrbo radio networks.

The figures below show examples of a remote control station using the RG-1000e .

8

2 System structure
The system of control station remote management consists of the following components:

· RG-1000e

· Radio connected to the RG-1000e

· SmartPTT software based on the Client–Server technology

The RG-1000e is connected and interacts with the SmartPTT server-based application that is used for controlling
it. For establishing an IP network connection, the RG-1000e is equipped with the 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX
Ethernet interface with the cable type autodetection. To provide interaction between the system components, the
RG-1000e and the radioserver are assigned static IP addresses and TCP and UDP/RTP port numbers. They are
used for sending radio control commands and audio transmissions from the dispatch console. The RG-1000e can
be used in the following cases:

· As a remote dispatcher's workplace outstation in digital networks without repeaters (Direct Mode
communication).

· In conventional or trunking MOTOTRBO networks where direct IP connection to repeaters is unavailable.

· In MOTOTRBO networks where connection to repeaters is established according to the hybrid scheme (data
calls are performed via the NAI interface of the repeater, voice calls are performed via the control station.

· In conventional or trunking non-MOTOTRBO networks where the RG-1000e is connected to control stations
and\or repeaters using GPIO lines.

The system offers the following advantages:

· You can organize a dispatch system in the networks where direct connection of the dispatch system to the
MOTOTRBO repeaters via an IP network is unavailable.

· You do not have to instal the radioserver in close proximity to the control stations within the radio network
coverage area.

· You can avoid interference and induced noise between the control stations located close to each other.

When planning the system, it must be taken into account that the packet delivery delay in the IP network leads to
the corresponding delay in radio responses to control commands and voice calls.

3.3 Fisrt time settings, connection and operation check

Before installing the RG-1000e , you must perform visual inspection of the delivery set to examine it for
mechanical damage to packaging and connection elements. Before connecting the radio, it is required to program
the RG-1000e operation mode. Only the interface cable from the delivery set can be used for the radio
connection.
RG-1000e can be placed on its rubber feet or can be attached to any vertical or horizontal surface. For rigid
mounting to surfaces, use the brackets from the delivery set. A radio can be fixed on the upper cover with a
standard radio bracket.
External parts must be mounted on the RG-1000e case with the screws from the delivery set only. Longer screws
may damage the board or its elements. The allowed places for installing the mounting elements on the RG-1000e
case are specified in Appendix II.
It is recommended that you adhere to the following sequence of connection and configuration procedures:
1. Make sure the RG-1000e is powered down (the POWER button on the front panel is unpressed) and no
devices are plugged into it.
2. Before the first start and configuration, the RG-1000e must be connected to an external power supply via
Power socket. It is recommended to use the power cable from RG-1000e delivery set.
Picture below shows RG-1000e power cable pinouts.

Fig. 5 Pow er cable pinouts.

Connect Black wire 1 - the positive lead "+" (marked with Red) of Power cable to +V port of an power supply.

RG-1000e Remote Gateway R2.2.2 v2 User Guide

3.3 Fisrt time settings, connection and operation check 15

Connect Black wire 2 - the negative lead "-" of Power cable to -V port of an power supply..
Attention! The RG-1000e GND bolt (or pin) of RG-1000e must be connected to the protective ground lead
of the room in w hich it is located.
Attention! 15.5 VDC is the max imum allow ed pow er supply voltage for the RG-1000e . Higher voltage
values must not be used.

You have an option to build own power cable. See Appendix III for detailed information.

Attention! If RG-1000e is used w ith MOTOTRBO radios, RG-1000e can be pow ered via the Pow er
socket, Radio 1 interface socket, or Radio 2 interface socket.
If RG-1000e is used w ith non-MOTOTRBO radios, RG-1000e can be pow ered only via the Pow er socket.
It is recommended that you consider the RG-1000e pow er supplying carefully.
The follow ing recommendations contain useful information how connect RG-1000e to pow er sources
properly:
· If only one MOTOTRBO radio is connected to the RG-1000e , the radio is the recommended pow er
source. The C-DM4 radio connection cable contains the required w ires.
· If tw o MOTOTRBO radios are connected to the RG-1000e , you may get pow er from both connected
MOTOTRBO radios. In this case it is strongly recommended to use a shared DC pow er supply for both
connected MOTOTRBO radios. 13.8 VDC pow er supply w ith 30A current load is sufficient for this task.
· You can turn-on and turn-off the " Getting pow er from connected devices" option using CPS RG-1000e.
To do this, you need to open the Radio 1 or Radio 2 settings (see the figure below ) and select or clear
the " Getting pow er from connected devices" check box .

Fig. 6 Enable\Disable getting pow er from a connected Mototrbo radio

If you clear the check box for both radios, the RG-1000e w ill be pow ered only via the Pow er socket.
Ensure that Pow er socket delivers pow er to the RG-1000e before turning off the option on both radios.
Attention! If the RG-1000e and mobile radios get pow er from independent pow er supply units, the
negative leads of all pow er supply units must be interconnected using the copper w ire w ith a cross-
section area no less than 17 AWG (2 mm 2).
3. Turn on the RG-1000e power supply.

RG-1000e Remote Gateway R2.2.2 v2 User Guide

3.3 Fisrt time settings, connection and operation check 16

4. Turn on the RG-1000e using the POWER button on its front panel. Connect the RG-1000e to a computer (with
installed CPS RG-1000e) using the USB A-miniB cable from the delivery set. Run CPS RG-1000e and configure
the RG-1000e Ethernet network parameters and the RG-1000e Radio ports parameters.
5. Turn off the RG-1000e using the POWER button on its front panel. Connect the RG-1000e to the IP network
equipment.
Attention! The use of Ethernet cables installed outdoors is strongly prohibited. Only indoor Ethernet
cables are allow ed.

Attention! It is highly recommended to use shielded Ethernet cables.

Attention! Do not forget to pow er dow n RG-1000e for 5-10 seconds every time w hen you change the unit
settings.
6. Configure the SmartPTT radioserver by specifying the IP address and the XCMP port of the RG-1000e .
7. Connect the radio to the RG-1000e using the interface cable.
8. Connect the power cable and antenna to the radio.
9. Connect the radio power cable to the RG-1000e power supply unit.
Attention! The RG-1000e and the radios must be pow ered from the same pow er source. If the pow er
supplies are different, connect their negative DC voltage leads together using the copper w ire w ith a
cross-section area no less than 17 AWG (2 mm 2) !
Attention! Pay special attention to quality and reliability of the connection of the negative radio supply
lead of the pow er cable to the pow er supply terminal. The cable accidental disconnection may lead to
the RG-1000e breakdow n!
10. Turn on the power supply of the RG-1000e and the radio.
11. Turn on the radio and the RG-1000e .
12. Run the SmartPTT radioserver. Wait for 3-5 minutes.
13. Check the LEDs on the front panel of the RG-1000e . If the LINK LED is constantly on and at least one
Radio LED is Off, the installation and configuration have been successfully completed.

14. Check the SmartPTT Radioserver Configurator Activity Tab. If the installation and configuration have
been successfully completed, the "Remote Control Station connected" message appears.

4.1 Conventional Mode 19

Fig. 11 Conventional Mode Repeater sam ple 3

The figures above show examples of building a system between radios in Conventional Mode. In these examples
the RG-1000e manages two control radios, each of which operates on its individual frequency channel and can be
programmed to operate both in digital and analog modes. If dispatchers need to operate on more than two
frequency channels simultaneously, more RG-1000e s with radios can be connected to the radioserver.

In digital mode, control stations support receiving subscribers data (ARS, GPS, TMS, etc.), transmitting control
commands to subscribers and voice message exchange. In analog mode, radios support only voice message
exchange with subscribers.

Control stations can be programmed to operate on multiple channels. They can switch to the required channel at
the dispatch console command.

To transmit and receive subscriber voice calls, control stations must belong to the same talkgroups as
subscribers.

Private Calls between subscribers will not be received by control stations and, consequently, will not be
transmitted to the radioserver and the dispatch console.

For more information on control stations capabilities and configuration, see "MOTOTRBO SYSTEM
PLANNER" (the “System Topologies” chapter), "SmartPTT Basic Installation&Configuration Guide" and the
"SmartPTT Radioserver Configurator" software help file.

4.2 Capacity Plus legacy trunking network

The topology of the dispatch system based on the SmartPTT software in the Capacity Plus Legacy trunking
network without the use of the MOTOTRBO Network Application Interface protocol (hereinafter the NAI protocol) is
called Capacity Plus Legacy. The following figure shows the typical topology:

Fig. 12 Capacity Plus netw ork in Legacy m ode: connection via the pool of the rem ote control stations

In Capacity Plus Legacy, the radioserver is directly connected to repeaters via an IP network. Repeaters transmit
voice calls (both Group Calls and Private Calls) and data received from subscribers to the radioserver over the IP
network.

The radioserver transmits control commands and voice calls from dispatchers to subscribers via a pool of remote
control stations (in the given example it consists of 4 units) connected to several RG-1000e s.

The number of remote control stations depends on the required number of simultaneous dispatcher calls. The
number of remote control stations must not exceed the number of trunking voice channels (in the given example,
4) in the Capacity Plus network.

For more information on control station configuration in the Capacity Plus Legacy mode, see "MOTOTRBO
SYSTEM PLANNER" (the “System Topologies” chapter), "Capacity Plus Deployment Guide" (MOTOTRBO +
SmartPTT), and "SmartPTT Radioserver Configurator" software help file.

4.2 Capacity Plus legacy trunking network 21

4.3 Capacity Plus trunking network with NAI Data

(hybrid mode)
The system topology of the dispatch system connected to Capacity Plus is shown in the figure below. In this
mode, Data exchange with subscribers is carried out via the MOTOTRBO NAI protocol, voice messages and
control commands are transmitted and received via a pool of control stations. This mode is called Hybrid Mode
(Capacity Plus Hybrid).

Fig. 13 Capacity Plus netw ork in Hybrid m ode: connection via the pool of the rem ote control stations

The NAI DATA license must be installed on each repeater in the Capacity Plus network. Data exchange between
the radioserver and subscribers is carried out via the NAI protocol by means of the installed MNIS and DDMS
services.

Group Calls and Private Calls are transmitted using a pool of control stations. Each talkgroup that includes
dispatchers requires a separate control station. Additionally, one or multiple radios can be installed to make
Private Calls to subscribers. In the example above three control stations are used for initiating and receiving
Group Calls to Talkgroups 1, 2, and 4. Radio station 4 is used for initiating Private Calls to subscribers and
receiving Private Calls from them.

4.5 I\O mode

RG-1000e s with firmware R2.2 and later may be used for connection of non-MOTOTRBO radios to the SmartPTT
radioserver. Mobile radios and/or repeaters (analog or digital) are connected to the RG-1000e using five wires:
PTT, CSQ, RX Audio, TX Audio, and GND. This mode is called the I/O Mode. It provides voice exchange between
SmartPTT dispatchers and talkgroups from the connected non-MOTOTRBO radio networks.

The following figures show examples of using the RG-1000e with non-MOTOTRBO remote control stations.

If the connected control station does not an output CSQ/COR/TG-Detect/PL-Detect signal line, you can use the
RG-1000e built-in RX VOX for generating the CSQ signal. For example, this option is useful for connection of the
MTM5000 family radios that are not equipped with the CSQ output signal line.

RG-1000e Remote Gateway R2.2.2 v2 User Guide

4.5 I\O mode 26

4.6 Bridge mode

The RG-1000e Bridge Mode can be used for interconnecting multiple radios and/or repeaters in a single radio
network. It creates a simple "geographically distributed" repeater. In the Bridge Mode, mobile radios and/or
repeaters (analog or digital) are connected to the RG-1000e using five wires: PTT, CSQ, RX Audio, TX Audio and
GND. The Bridge Mode does not support any signaling systems (CTCSS, DQS, MDC1200, QT, Select V, DMR,
dPMR) and does not use digital links (USB, RS-232) to exchange commands with radios/repeaters.

In Bridge Mode, the RG-1000e s communicate with each other directly via IP networks, creating transparent links
for audio streams and PTT/CSQ commands. SmartPTT radioserver does not take part in this process. The
following figure shows how the RG-1000e can be used in Bridge Mode:
