Body Image

What is body image? Is this the cause of low self-esteem? What can be changed? Is this what

people see? These questions go through the minds of people struggling with their appearance.

Body Image. These are the most common words used every day in social media, whether it be

negative or positive. This paper will explain what body image is and what it can do to a person.

Body Image is how a person sees themselves when they look in the mirror or how they picture

themselves in their minds. The way that they view themselves can cause them to feel a certain

way. It can be negative, positive or sometimes a bit of both. The way that someone sees

themselves is not always accurate. For example, when they look into the mirror, they may think

that they are overweight when really, they are underweight. It can lead to something bigger such

as an eating disorder or body dysmorphic disorder. Body dysmorphic disorder is a mental

disorder in which a person points out a flaw that they have which is either minor or it is not

there. Which then leads into getting their "flaw" surgically removed.

Social Media is one of the causes of body image issues. When people scroll through their news

feeds, they see a person who in their opinion is pretty and that they want to look like them which

causes them to compare how they look to the person who posted the photo. That is how low self-

esteem forms. They try to change their appearance so that they can be the ones people call pretty.

People also see that getting plastic surgery is another route to take to be satisfied with how they

look and slowly their self- esteem begins to rise. Then they start to think that if they do not like
something about their appearance, they can change it by getting it surgically fixed. Being called

names on the internet makes a person want to be what society calls "pretty".

Eating Disorders are the effects of negative body image. The negative effects on body image

include eating disorders and other types of disorders as well. Low self-esteem plays a role in this

for example when a person turns the tv on and sees a commercial for some popular clothing

brand and while the model is walking down the runway people are taking pictures and saying

that she is beautiful because she is skinny and has no flaws at all. This makes the viewer want to

go on a diet or not eat at all. This leads to an eating disorder such as bulimia and anorexia. It

makes the person think that by eating less they will be skinny like the model that they saw on tv

and will be called pretty instead of being called overweight. It also makes a person lose an

excessive amount of weight.

Poor self-esteem can lead to depression, anxiety, and relationships. It can also make it hard to

work or go to school because they require some amount of confidence which has been lost due to

low self-esteem. Negative body image can result in unhappiness which leads to depression. It

depends on the way that a person talks to themselves if they tell themselves negative things then

that brings down their confidence level whereas, someone who tells themselves positive things is

happier and has higher confidence levels. It can also make a person feel uncomfortable in their

skin. Having low self-esteem can make a person shy and not want to be out in public because of

their appearance.

In conclusion, Body image is everywhere. It can make someone want to change something about

themselves so that they fit society's standard of "Beautiful" or "Handsome." It can also cause a

person to develop a disorder or even have mental issues due to what is being said to the person or
even what they see. It will take time to overcome body issues but, by saying positive things and

learning to appreciate their body they can boost their confidence level.

Music Heals

Music can help calm and distract a person from painful or stressful situations. People listen to

music everywhere doing anything. The reason that people do it is that music makes a person

happy. Listening to music brings positive emotion through our brain and gives out dopamine

which triggers good feelings. Music can heal by increasing our health and wellbeing. The

positive impact that it has on health is more powerful than medication. This essay will explain

how music is beneficial for society and how it brings happiness and positivity.

Music reduces anxiety and stress. People find that music that they are most familiar with brings

comfort and relaxation. Since music does the job when it comes to reducing anxiety, it is played

on numerous occasions such as dental appointments, doctors' appointments, and radiation. It

makes them less worried about the procedures because they are more focused on the lyrics than

the procedure. It reduces stress by listening to music that a person finds relaxing and unwinding,

something that can take their minds off whatever happened at work or school. It provides

comfort through the lyrics because it tells a story of what the person who wrote it went through

and how they are trying to help the listener.

Music uplifts people and makes them happier. Just by playing it in the background it can make

someone happier than they were 30 minutes ago or even an hour ago. Listening to music in the

background can make a task easier or even lessen the strain of the activity. Depending on the

taste of music that the person has played their favorite song can make them feel good. For
example, cleaning while music is playing can make the task less tedious and more enjoyable for

the person doing the task. It can even go by faster due to the person getting lost in the song and

not realizing how far they got on their cleaning. Even when going to the gym and working out. It

takes your mind off the pain of lifting weights or the feeling of being tired after running.

Music can comfort and have a safe space. When someone is either depressed, stressed, sad, mad

whatever the feeling is music is there to comfort them and so are the people that also listen to the

same type of music. There are playlists for different moods or different activities like studying,

working out, chill, etc., and moods like sad, happy, sleepy. People make a playlist for people

who went through the same thing that they went through or are going through it now. It is a safe

space for some people because it can help ease whatever pain they are feeling and can comfort

them. The artist says that their fans are the reason that they are here and vice versa the reason

that the fans are here is because of the artist and their songs. Music is there when no one is. it can

help a person overcome something or reach their goals whatever it is music is essential to life.

Overall, music is essential to society because not only does it bring happiness and health it also

comforts. It is part of life. It creates memories and flashbacks of happiness or something that

happened in their lives. Music brings positive impacts to society and is food for the soul. It feeds

the human soul through the lyrics and the beat. It creates a safe space for people who feel alone,

and it lets them know that they are not alone and that someone is there going through it with

them.

Why sleep is important

Why is sleep important? How much sleep is needed? Why is sleep important for the brain &

health? Sleep is important because it plays a role in being healthy and for a person's well-being

throughout their life. Sleep helps the brain work properly. While sleeping the brain is getting

ready for the next day by paving a path for learning and retaining information. It is essential for

the brain because that is when it goes through the 5 stages of sleep which goes from light sleep to

deep sleep. This essay will talk about the importance of sleep.

Sleep is needed so that a person does not have sleep deprivation or lack of sleep. Sleep

deprivation is a condition that shows up when the amount of sleep is short. There are a few

symptoms of sleep deprivation which include sleeping at the wrong time, not getting enough

sleep, or not sleeping at all due to a sleeping condition. It can lead to physical and mental health

problems, lack of productivity, etc. It can make a person feel tired during the day, it also

interferes with school, work, and functioning in society.

The amount of sleep is important because it is how information is retained and how well

information is processed and also how a person functions. It is important because it lets the brain

work properly and prepare for the next day. Same with the body it is important that the body also

gets rest to heal any wounds inside and outside. It boosts memory, fights infections by making

the immune system stronger, and replenish. While sleeping the body repairs any damage caused

by stress or other exposures. It also makes the body more alert by providing energy.
Sleep cycle. There are 4 stages to the sleep cycle which include the REM and NON- REM in rem

is the light sleep it is the first stage when a person lays down and closes their eyes. With slight

eye movement and slow vitals. The second one is before they enter deep sleep. It is when

breathing and heart rate slow down, and muscles relax. With slight body twitching, only because

the body is relaxed and is sending signals to the brain. The third step is deep sleep where it

should feel refreshing in the morning and it becomes harder to wake the person up due to brain

waves becoming slower. The fourth step is the deep sleep/ waking up process.

In conclusion, the article perfectly explained why sleep is important and what the 5 stages of

sleep are. It answered the questions that were asked at the beginning of the essay. It explained

step by step what the sleep stages are and why sleep is necessary for health and brain.

"I've Been to the Mountaintop"

On April 3, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. built a reputation among the people that respected him

everywhere, he was thought of as a fantastic speaker, spiritual and a man sent from God, also an

amazing civil rights activist. Imagine being in his position speaking at a church filled with

numerous amounts of people wishing to be inspired and led by a man who had a dream. They

were looking for equality and were going to use violence in place of justice. Imagine speaking to

these people and inspiring them to act out because everyone is a rightful child of God. It is what

Martin Luther King was pushing to do in his speech. He used ethos, logos, and pathos to inspire

and move his audience. By creating a common ground and the choice of words he created what

he intended in the first place.

He used pathos by the choice of words that showed a sense of emotion in his audience. He chose

to use the words "Freedom", "Victory, and "Rightful Place". These words created a dream that is

shared among his audience. If he did not pause during his speech then his words would be less

meaningful. He showed emotion by the tone of his voice and how slowly he spoke as he was

giving his speech. He spoke slow and with passion, that it caused the words to sink in and

become more meaningful to his audience. When he delivered his speech his audience could feel

what he was feeling because of the tone that he used to deliver his speech.

Martin Luther King used repetition to get his dream out there. he used phrases such as "I

would..." and "If I had sneezed..." to mark important events and the goals that he has for civil
rights. The historical event imprinted a sense of pride and unity in his audience. It took them

back to a time when power and pride made the world just and equal. Equality proposes a goal

and shows the common ground. he showed common feelings toward his audience which caused

them to take his words as impactful.

He uses logos to bring momentum to his speech and to urge his audience to do something and

stand with him during this time of forming a march for the sanitation workers in Memphis and

for the economic equality and social justice that he hoped his campaign would stress nationally.

He gave careful instructions such as, being patient and not using violence while encouraging his

dream. He left a message to his audience what it means to care for someone you love other than

yourself. And that hope is out there you just have to grab it and not let go.

Overall, Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech "I've Been to the Mountaintop" used ethos, logos, and

pathos to get his dream across Memphis before his assassination and that it is important to not

only love yourself but to love others as well. His speech left a mark on this world and Memphis.

He gained the attention of the audience by incorporating ethos, logos, and pathos that made his

speech more impactful.
