Purpose:
The purpose of Dance Company is to educate and develop strong dancers who are college,
career, and life ready. The company will be expected to create 2-3 student choreographed
concerts each year. They will additionally be asked to perform for school functions such as
assemblies, sporting events, and represent the school at festivals and competitions. As the top
performing dance team at Timpview, students selected for Dance Company must act as
representatives of the school through their actions at all times. Prior to auditioning, students
wishing to participate in dance company must understand and agree to the following:
1. Professionalism--Students will not participate in any activity or action that reflects poorly
on the team or school. This includes behavior on social media both on public and
private accounts. Students will treat each other and the dance faculty and staff with
respect and courtesy. Any illegal behavior, including drug or alcohol use, destruction of
school property, etc will not be tolerated and will lead to immediate dismissal from the
team. Bullying/ hazing/ threatening behavior towards any student is not tolerated.
Students must commit to maintaining all standards set forth in the student handbook.
2. Time Commitment--Dance Company is taught during the school day but does require
frequent after school rehearsals and performances. Students not able to attend after
school rehearsals should not expect to be cast in those pieces of choreography and can
expect reduced performance time. Students should be prepared to perform at any home
football or basketball halftime, and must attend the tech week rehearsals prior to each
concert. Failure to attend any rehearsal that you have committed to without prior excuse
will be reflected on your grade and may result in being cut from the piece.
6. Participation and Team Support--Members of dance company are expected to give their
best effort 100% of the time. They will show respect and encouragement to their
teammates by accepting choreographic choices, using time effectively, being prepared
for each rehearsal, being willing to try new ideas and movement choices, practicing
outside of class and rehearsal, and avoiding actions that may bring down the morale of
the team. Team members are not required to be best friends with each other but they
must respect and support each other. In the event that team members choose to date
each other, they will not allow any aspect of their relationship to enter the studio.
Joining Timpview Dance Company is a serious commitment. It requires hard work but yields
great benefits including increased skill, unmatched performance opportunities, and lifelong
friendships. If you understand these expectations and are willing to commit to them, we look
forward to seeing your audition tape. Good luck!!
