Not having a Negative ROI

As I was entering college, I first wanted to know if people say if

college is easy or not and student graduates can land with an easy job. I

researched of people who graduated from college to see how their lives

would be like. Unfortunately, some of them came out with no debt while

others graduated in major debt. I would see when people come out of

colleges having no negative ROI’s or having the idea of not graduating since

they didn’t do so good. The idea of having a positive ROI is very good when it

comes to graduating college. I know this for a fact because personally my

friends who went through colleges, they either had a good ROI or a negative

ROI.

College students don’t realize they must graduate in order not to have

a negative ROI. For this, we first need to look at the facts of what causes of

having a negative ROI and how to prevent a negative ROI from happening.

Smart people are more likely to go to college with having a better SAT test

(Graff 318). They are more motivated to learn so they can become financially

successful after college (318). Smart people have a less chance of failing out

of college rather than students who don't take the time of using their ROI's

great.

But in reality it is true, people around them have seen that people who

don't want to be educated are more likely not to go to college while people

who are really smart are more likely to go to college since they have the

mindset of wanting to learn more. For me, the difference between smart and

people who don't want to learn but go to college ROI is that the smart people

don't waste their time which gives them a positive ROI while the other

people who don't want to learn but go to college waste their time by either

partying or not showing up to their classes to learn. The fact is that when the

smart students graduate from college, they have a less chance of getting a

negative ROI rather than the other people who don't take the college

education seriously, they would have a more chance of getting a negative

ROI. The professors at university say that for students who have more

attention, they have a better lower net of attending college. (Graff 319) So in

this case if students pay attention in college, they could actually get

something useful out of it.

Students who pay attention more are also likely to get better financial

aid since they care about the education. Now students literally don't just get

more financial aid because of paying attention more. By paying attention

more, they have a better chance of getting a better education and by better

education, the students can expect a better financial aid such as

scholarships for example. This could be good for the students who don't pay

attention; they don't realize the benefits of what happens when students

care about their education, they just let it go to waste and in return they

don't get the benefit of lower net of attending college. Now believe it or not,

if the student seeks additional education, it can benefit them in a good way.

Personally, a student feels good when they go above and beyond when it

comes to education, the need to get out of their comfort zone so when it

comes to seeking education, they can improve the well-being of themselves.

So, in doing this, there a lot of things that are important for them. The

social benefits would be that they if pay attention in college, the socializes

of a student increases also reducing the crime rates (Graff 319). They can

have a lot of things good coming their way since they are mostly the people

students can hang around with knowing that they will be safe. For the people

who don't care about their education, they have more likely of a chance to

get crime rates increased. Then that would become a bad situation for them

since they wouldn't be able to have a positive ROI.

Degrees matter in this situation too since depending on the degree

students can either have a negative or positive ROI. As for bachelor's

degrees, students who graduate with a bachelor's degree make more by age

50. (Graff 319) This may sound bad first, normally if a student would hear

this, they would probably not even consider it to go to college at all. But in

reality, it is actually good because with an associate degree, post graduate

Khawaja 2

students probably won't be making a lot of money around age 50 not unless

they become really lucky. People with bachelor's degree also have a high

chance of having a positive ROI when graduating while people who have

associate degree have a less chance of having a positive ROI.

But with a college degree, there are also benefits that come with the

costs of paying for a education (Graff 320). Even though the degree students

get could either be bad or good, there are still positives for the outcome of it.

Take for example of an engineering degree, it's one of the highest paid jobs

and the most demanding job right now. So, if students come out of college

with a engineering degree they pretty much have a chance of landing a job.

With a degree, post graduate students can have a job but with the degree it

depends what type of job they are going to get.

When a student is applying for tuition, normally the student is

dependent on loans (Graff 320). If the student is coming from a low-income

family or paying themselves, then of course the student would have to apply

for loans otherwise they wouldn't be able to get a college education. This

can result in either a negative or positive ROI depending on how students

spend their time wisely in college. Normally students nowadays have that

thought in mind whether they should invest their money and time into getting

a college degree (Graff 321). There are people in the world who became

successful and they didn't have to invest their time and money into college.

This puts the students into a situation if they should do the same thing.

Some students take the traditional route of going to college of getting a

college degree, while other students go for their dreams and decide not to go

to college. The students should spend more time of whether of how to spend

a time more on the negative ROI and see if they should not be able to have a

good sense of an idea to overcome it. They must realize students shouldn’t

have a negative ROI in order to graduate college.
