INTRODUCTION

Industrial pollution is the pollution and waste by product

directly connected with industrial manufacturing.
Industrial pollution represents the leading worldwide
cause in pollution in general and probably the most toxic
to all life and nature. Because industrial pollutants are
produced in such large capacity from manufacturing
worldwide and because they last so long before breaking
down. This kind of pollutant is a toxicity risk for the entire
planet.

Treatment of
Industrial Effluents
Way 1

Primary treatment

It is of general nature and is

used for removing suspended
solids, odour, color and to
neutralize the high or low pH.
Treatment of Industrial Effluents
Way 1 : Primary treatment

It involves methods
of :
Screening
Neutralization
Equalization
Sedimentation
Coagulation

Precipitation
Co-precipitation
Treatment of Industrial
Effluents
Way : 2

secondary treatment

Generally secondary treatment involves

biological processes and bacteria which are
utilized for the oxidation. The organic
substances present in the effluent serve as
food for the bacteria and thus within a short
time they make the effluent free from organic
matter by consuming it.
Treatment of Industrial Effluents
Way 2 : Secondary treatment

The main biological

treatments are given below:

Trickling filter
Anaerobic digestion
Oxidation ditch
Aerated lagoon
Aerated lagoon
Activated sludge process
Oxidation pond
Treatment of Industrial
Effluents
Way : 3

Tertiary

This type of treatment is needed for the

effluent for the removal of bacteria and
dissolved inorganic matter (metals, metal
oxides, metal Carbonates, metal sulphates
etc.). The bacteria of fecal origin are
removed by keeping the effluent in
maturation ponds for a definite period.
Treatment of Industrial Effluents
Way 3 : Tertiary treatment
For the removal of inorganic
substances, the following methods
have been recommended:

Reverse osmosis
Chemical Precipitation
Evaporation
Dialysis
Removal by algae
Ion Exchange
Activated carbon
Exchange resins
Conclusion

According to the topic , Industrial pollution

minimization must be needed nowadays.
Though It is not possible to eradicate industrial
pollution completely. But we should try to
reduce the pollution to the highest level.
Otherwise, It will endanger not only the human
kind but also the total environment.
