SOL K.7 The student will respond to music with movement, including
1. matching locomotor and nonlocomotor movements to rhythmic patterns
2. demonstrating expressive qualities of music, including loud/soft and fast/slow
3. illustrating moods and contrast in music
5. exhibiting respect for the personal space of others when moving.
SOL K.11 The student will participate in music activities that involve sharing, taking turns, and
other behaviors that demonstrate good citizenship.

Process (45 minutes)
10 minutes: Introduction ritual
“Hello, Hello” (5 minutes)
- Sing “Hello, Hello” to students and have them join in with waving
- Sing “We pat our heads Hello” with students with movements
- Sing “We tap our knees Hello” with students with movements
- Take 2 or 3 student suggestions for movements
Pom-Pom (5 minutes)
- Pass Pom-Pom to students individually singing “Hello, [name]”, they throw it back
10 minutes: Syncopated Clock
Give call and response vocal examples for (2 minutes)
- Staccato/Legato
- Forte/Piano
Practice (4 minutes)
- Discuss scarf etiquette (don’t rip, steal etc)
- Circle up (standing)
- Pass out scarves
- Ask for/demonstrate staccato movements
- Ask for/demonstrate legato movements
- Demonstrate C section movements (twirly)
- Demonstrate ending toss (scarf lands on head)
Do without music (2 minutes)
- Students say “staccato” “legato” as they do accompanying movements
Do with music (2 minutes)
- Collect scarves at the end
10 minutes: Find the pretty [blank] (This would be cut if not enough time)
Review (2 minutes)
- Review Rules
- Review Piano/Forte
Remaining students play (8 minutes)
10 minutes: Bugz!
Review Picnic (4 minutes)
- Every part with music
- Whole song with music
Review Lady (3 minutes)
- Every part with music
- Whole song with music
Start firefly (3 minutes)
- Chorus and verse without music
- Whole song with music
5 minutes: Buh-bye
“Bye” song (same as “Hello song”)
