I’ve already given you the review of the Varieties of Cold, but I… because I thought I couldn’t judge the
English translation. :D :D
It’s rather a comparison. What the translation deprives.

Ach, niet jej! Bola fašiangová nedeľa. – She has gone forever! It was Carnival Sunday.
Ach, kde si, veselá devucha? - Where are you, you merry little spirit?
Johanka medzi ne nepatrila. Ach jaj. Veď bola čaj si o celú ... - But Johanka was different. She was about sixty
years younger…

- We show respect by „onikanie“ – We can’t preserve „vykanie“ as well.

Johanka často povrá va, že krstná mater už vtedy o všetkom vedeli. - Johanka often claims that
Godmother already knew everything.
Krstná mater pokračovali - Godmother continued

I said it in the previous homework too, the diminutives are not represented in English …as in
Slovak.

Žilôčka sa nechveje. Kvapôčka krvi nezazvoní. Mô žeš aj ucho priložiť, jediného zvúčika nevystriehneš. -
The vein was not pulsating. The blood of life had drained out of her. You could press your ear to her flesh but
still wouldn’t hear the faintest sound.

- different style, the verb „dokonať“ is often used in books

„Chudera, musí trpieť, možno aj dokoná." Dumala. „Mnohé pri pô rode dokonali." - “The poor thing – how
she must suffer; she may even die," she fretted to herself. “Many have died in labour."

- In this example, we can see that the word “sukienka” was translated not correctly in one of the
sentences
Tvoja ružovkastá sukienka sa ná m ešte ovieva pred očami. - Your pinkish blouse still dances before our
eyes.
Ani sukienka jej nezašuští, ani čižmy nezavrždia. Niet jej. - There will be no rustle of her skirt, no squeak
from her boots. Not anymore.
