ABSTRACT
Since the advent of the Fibre-Reinforced Polymer (FRP), its usage in the enhancement of
our reinforced concrete (RC) structures has come a long way with its unique features,
benefits and various ways of application. Beyond its ability to strengthen structures against
gravity loads, FRP has catered to strengthening of structures against dynamic loads for
both seismic and blast loads. It has also penetrated beyond strengthening to be a viable
material to reinforced concrete with its replacement of steel. The aim of this paper is to look
at the FRP and concrete as a composite in both enhancement and reinforcement of the
concrete. In the enhancement, it will look into the ways and areas of application of the FRP
in plate, sheet and rebar forms. In the reinforcement, the latest usage of the FRP in various
unique and specialised solutions to overcome the constraints we encountered with steel as
the reinforcement to concrete.
