PRE-APPLIED FULLY BONDED HDPE MEMBRANE

TECHNOLOGY FOR CONCRETE PROTECTION

Grace Construction Products

ABSTRACT
Concrete is susceptible to cracking due to earthquake, as well as vulnerable to groundwater and
atmospheric contaminants that penetrate the concrete’s surface. The aggressive nature of coastal
groundwater can negatively impact the durability of structural concrete and, consequently, the
durability of the overall structure.

A pre-applied fully bonded membrane technology that remains sealed to the concrete even if the
ground settles is required. The bonded HDPE membrane provides an isolation layer between the
building’s foundation or basement and the surrounding grounds and groundwater, and acts as a
physical barrier against most chemicals, including sulfates and chlorides. HDPE was chosen for
this purpose because it has excellent mechanical properties required for this application including
high puncture, tear, and tensile strengths as well as good elongation for bridging any post-formed
cracks in the structure.

Water migration can be prevented with the membrane new technology that enhances the
structure’s long-term performance and durability.
