The co-operative principle and implicature

In this chapter, I understood that when we talk the person

who listens to us expect us to say the truth, and to be
.relevant, and clear
So Grice suggested that the normal coverstion, speaker
,and listener share a co-operative principle (knowledge)
Co-operative principle according to Grice is shared
.knowledge between the speaker and hearer
Grice analyzes cooperative principle
In four Maxims: quantity, quality, relevance, clarity
.(manner)
The maxims of quantity: make your contribution as
.informative as is required

The maxims of quality: don't say what

You be false, say what you believe to
.Be true
The maxims of relation: what you say must be relevant to
.the conversation

The maxims of mannar: you must avoid the ambiguity

.and be brief
:Example
?Jane: where is my black jacket
.Mom: your black jacket in the car
Mom answered clearly which means use the maxims of
manner, and she was truthfully (the maxims of quality)
And she gave information as required (the maxim of
quantity), and she give Jane the place (goal) of the jacket
.(relation)

Floating a maxim
A cooperative speaker can intentionally disobey a
maxim, as long as he or the context provides
enough indicators for the hearer to notice it. It use
to indirectly convey information.eq: what a nice
!jacket Ronny
This can be a positive comment on Ronny's jacket
and here the maxim of quality obeyed or can be a
negative comment on his Jacket and the maxim of
quality disobeyed that when say it after the jacket
.was cutting
Now I will talk about implicature which means
what a speaker can imply, suggest or mean as
.distinct from what the speaker literally says
