Affan Hasan (1980) states that Gayonese divided into four regions, they are; Gayo Laut or it is called as Gayo Laut Tawar who lives around Lake Laut Tawar, Gayo Deret or Gayo Linge who live around Linge area, Gayo Lues who lives around Gayo Lues, and Gayo Serbejadi who lives around Serbejadi-Sembuang Lookup area. Gayo language is the language used in daily activity by Gayo people. Gayo language has a relation with Karonese in North Sumatera. The Gayo language (pronunciation: Gayô) is an Austronesian language spoken by the Gayo tribe in Aceh province, which is concentrated in Central Aceh District, Bener Meriah, Gayo Lues. These 3 regions are the core areas of the Gayo tribe. Gayo is one of the languages in the archipelago. The existence of this language is the same as its old age with Gayo "uro Gayo" itself in Indonesia. While the Gayo people "urang Gayo" are the original ethnic in Gayo. The terms of dialects that exist in the Gayo, M.J. Melalatoa divides the Gayo Lut dialect consisting of the Gayo Lut and Deret sub-dialects; while Bukit and Cik are sub-subdials. Likewise, the Gayo Lues dialect consists of Gayo Lues and Serbejadi sub-dialects. The Serbejadi sub-dialect itself includes the Serbejadi and Lukup sub-dialects (1981: 53). While Baihaqi Ak., Et al mentioned the number of Gayo dialects in accordance with the distribution of the Gayo tribe earlier (Gayo Lut, Deret, Gayo Lues, Lokop / Serbejadi and Kalul). However, Gayo Lues, Gayo Lut, Gayo Lukup / Serbejadi and Gayo Deret dialects can be said to be the same or very close together. In Gayo Lut itself there are two dialects which are called Bukit and Cik dialects (1981: 1). In the Gayo language, we also recognize the level of politeness shown by speech (calling someone) with a different calling. This shows manners, courtesy, respect, appreciation and affection. For example in using the word for parents, will have a different speech with children. We can give an example, the use of ko and kam, both of which means you (you) are usually used from parents and / or older calls to younger people, on the contrary, it feels awkward or disrespectful when young people use this word to more people old. The word kam itself is more polite than ko. Besides that, this camp shows the plural meaning and intimate call between husband and wife. In addition, the Gayo Lut language is considered more polite and refined compared to other Gayo languages.
