Victory Hall Trust Deed Committee
2017: What’s in store for the Victory Hall? You tell us…

Mobberley’s Victory Hall was built in 1921 in commemoration of British Armed

Forces who served in the Great War. Since then it has stood proud on Town Lane &
has been used by a great number of people.

2017 is an exciting year ahead for the Victory Hall as we build on the recent exterior
renovations by bringing up to date the inside and what’s on offer to the community.

In not so many years, the Victory Hall will be celebrating its 100th year and so, what
better moment than now to come together with ideas of what the Hall means to you
and what you see as the future for this well-used amenity of Mobberley village...
and so THIS is where we need your help!

Take our 3-minute anonymised survey & tell us what you think by going to:

https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/mobberleyvictoryhall

For a paper copy of the survey, please call Alistair on 01565 872871

Your views will help shape the future of Victory Hall.

We will share summary results of the survey in our February

newsletter.

Mobberley Community Orchard
Our last month’s working party morning dawned
bright and sunny. The Autumnal nip of frost early on
soon gave way to a bright and sunny morning
where a few people gathered at the orchard to clear
a few more brambles and weed the base of the
trees.

A small harvest of apples were tasted and amongst

the many varieties it appeared that the Egremont
Russet was everyone’s favourite!

There will be no work parties in December or Janu-

ary. The next one will be Saturday 4th February between 8am and 12 noon. There is
plenty of work to do meanwhile.

There are four new trees on order 1 Black Mulberry, 1 Apple (scrumptious), 2 Plum
trees (Jubilee and Opal)

If you would like to help with this project please ring Nick Eadie (872306)

As mentioned on page 3, the calendar

competition has now closed, but please
do not stop sending your brilliant pictures
of Mobberley to the clerk. These will be
published whenever possible in the
newsletter.

The picture right is ‘Sunrise over Paddock

Hill’ sent in by Anne Connaughton, and

1st Mobberley Brownie News
Mobberley Brownies have had a great first half-term since
starting a new school year in September.
We have enjoyed a trip to Lower Moss Wood Nature reserve,
where we went on a moonlit forest nature walk with Ranger Ray.
We looked at various types of forest treasure, including
mushrooms, pine cones and acorns, and learned to track for owls
from their poop! We listened to funny woodland animal stories
and were treated to a choral display from the various birds of the forest as we imitated
their bird song.
Unfortunately, the bats didn't want to come out to play, but that didn't matter as the
pièce de résistance was when we met some beautiful birds of prey, including the
magnificent European Eagle Owl. We are well on the way to completing our Wildlife
Explorer Badge as a result of our wonderful visit.
We have also celebrated the 100th birthday of Roald Dahl this term. We had a
fantastic creative session where we made BFG Frobscottle, dream catcher jars and
ate Willy Wonka Chocolate Bars!
If you would like more information on joining Brownies, please speak to Helen
Kynnersley on 07813 927103.

Cheshire Community Choirs – Knutsford Choir

Knutsford Choir, part of the Cheshire Community Choir
group, meet through three 12-week terms per year.
They meet at Knutsford Methodist Church on Princess
Street on Friday mornings from 11am to 12.30pm. The
focus is on healthy singing, so the first half hour of the
session is physical and vocal warm-up, concentrating on
breathing techniques using the diaphragm, which helps
with lung function. Singing like this helps to elevate mood, reduces blood pressure and
exercises the whole body.
There is an eclectic mix of songs, some are a cappella and some have backing tracks.
Most members are retired; some have disabilities and find the sessions help them in
various ways. The sessions are informal, so there are no auditions. The choirs are
best suited to non-singers or people who have not sung for many years.
The Choir is always looking for new members and the first session is complimentary,
so people can find out if it's for them before committing to membership. At the end of
each term, all the Cheshire Community Choirs come together to sing as one and cover
informal events at retirement homes, local festivals, etc.
For more details, please contact Kate Firth on 07794 050591 or visit the website
www.cheshirecommunitychoirs.com.

Sunday services

Morning Worship (and Sunday Club) 10am
Choral Evensong 6.30pm
December is always a very exciting month and this
year even more so as we begin with a concert by
Chetham’s School of Music on Friday 2 December
at 7.30pm. This has been advertised for the following
night but it is definitely the 2nd. Refreshments will also
be provided all for a cost of £10 non-concessions, £5
concessions and under-12’s free. We would like to
thank Dawson’s Music who sponsor all our musical events. Tickets are available now.
On Saturday 10 December we shall be joining our friends from Mobberley Methodist
Church for our Open-Air Carol Service outside The Village Bakery at 10am and
many thanks to the Bakery, in advance, for their help and support.
The next day we shall be holding our annual Christingle Service, Sunday 11th Decem-
ber at 10 a.m. when we reflect on Jesus the Light of the world.
Our last Messy Church of the year will be on Saturday 17th from 10.00-11.30 a.m. at the
Rajar and this will be our Christmas party. The children will also be helping us out at our
Children’s Nativity Service on Sunday 18th December when they shall present
their own unique take on the Christmas story. In the evening there is a very different
mood and spirit when we hold our traditional service of Nine Lessons and Carols at 6.30
p.m. followed by mince pies and mulled wine.
On Christmas Eve we shall be holding our ever-popular Family Crib Services at 2.00
p.m. and 4.00 p.m. We particularly encourage those with younger children to
come to the 2.00 p.m. service which is less crowded. At this simple retelling of the
Christmas story the children to put together our Christmas Crib and we smell the tanta-
lising fragrance of frankincense and myrrh. In the evening we shall celebrate Midnight
Mass beginning at 11.30 a.m. In contrast to the Crib Service this is a very tradi-
tional and dignified service conducted according to the Book of Common Prayer with
readings from the King James Bible.
There will be two further celebrations of Christmas Holy Communion on Christmas Day,
a said service at 8.30 a.m. and a sung family service at 10 a.m.
In January we shall be celebrating the Feast of the Epiphany, and the arrival of the wise
men, on Sunday 8th which pushes our usual Plough Sunday service back a week to the
15th January. At this service we ask God’s blessing on the plough and on the seed
and pray for our farmers in the year ahead.
In 2017 a group from the church will be going to visit Ghana to strengthen the links we
have with that country and particularly with Mampong Babies Home. Our Christmas
Crib will be sponsoring the Babies Home and in addition the church is organising a
Charity Quiz Night on Friday 20th January at the Victory Hall. Tickets cost £10
which includes supper are on sale from the start of December, teams of 6 people
(additional team members are each a £5 forfeit). Do come and join us, you will have a
fantastic night and raise money for a great cause.

site www.mobberleychurch.co.uk

will also be a great place to meet people and build friendships.

This is an all-ages service with specific ministry for young people. Tea and coffee is
served after the service and fair trade goods are available each Sunday.
Please note the church is open each Thursday morning for quiet meditation from
10am to 12 noon.
